Help installing SSD?

I have purchased an OCZ 120GB vertex 3 SSD.
My MB is an asus maximus IV.
Do I just plug the SSD into one of the sata3 ports, enable AHCI and install W7 to the SSD?
What other settings and precautions should I take?
Once W7 is installed, what settings should I use or turn off such as pagefile etc.
I am using a WD 1TB caviar black also for my games.

If the SSD needs a firmware update, how do I do this without having to wipe the SSD?

Most firmware updates will not wipe your data but it's best to upgrade before you put any data on it or make a backup beforehand just in case.

Disconnect the HDD before installing Windows onto the SSD otherwise some Windows files will be put on the HDD.

The SSD should be the only drive attached to the computer during the OS install. Make sure its plugged into SATA port 1.

Really looking forward to having my OS on a SSD now.
I have heard games such as arma 2 and world of warcraft are fantastic on a SSD.
I own a. asus maximusIV, should I plug the SSD into the sata6GB intel or marvell controller?

you got a vertex 3 so definitely intel if you want to see the maximum speed

From what I've heard the marvel port runs slower than the stansard sata3

Also run it on a dedicated sata power line, if possible. My Vertex 2 didn't share nicely

i did have a read of that before posting but it was a bit over my head.

is it basically just a performance/compatibility enhancement feature worth installing on SSDs ?

It's a standard that allows developers to use SATA drives in the most efficient manner which is why you get the best performance in this mode.
