hi all
back in jan my custom built pc stopped working. the psu was fine and it turned out that both my asrock fatal1ty p67 pro m/b and also the CPU were both blown!!

I bit the bullet and replaced the cpu and m/b. I got the exact samw mb as I didn't want to rebuild windows.

how tonight I wanted to test some ram with memtest. so powered off the machine pulled out my ram and put the single chip of ram in I wanted to test.. but then the machine would not power on at all..

I have tested the psu (by bridge the pins) and its fine everything powers on. but as soon as I connect the 20+4 pin connector back on the mb dead!!!
it cost me nearly £400 to fix last night (4 months ago!)

question is I get the asrock fatality pro z77 mb would windows see this as different hardware and ask me to rebuild windows?

anything else I can try for testing other than ripping all the watercooling out and taking the mb out of the case and putting in a new mb?

From what I have read online, you will be fine swapping the motherboard, but a reactivation will be needed. You should be able to do this over the phone with the reactivation option in Windows.

You need to find out why this is happening first. Motherboards and cpu's don't just blow. What make and model is that psu?

This ...

Jumping the PSU is not testing it. Its just turning it on and off and having no load on a PSU is also a bad thing! I would get that PSU tested properly (by using a PSU tester) or buying a new, quality PSU to see if its the culprit.
