Hi All,
I thought I'd try out Linux again (tried it a few versions ago, never really go to grips with it though).
Any way long story short, Ubuntu 9.04 installed, PC rebooted and I get a GRUB error 17. Googled and basically all solutions I found required me booting into Linux from the disc, so I tried that but it hung when the desktop loaded, just the desktop and a plain white bar at the top and bottom of the screen. Tried Damn Small Linux and that froze too when there were 2 penguins at the top left of the screen.
So I thought I'd use my Vista Recovery Disc (Unfortunately, I left my Vista Install Disc 200 miles away when I moved home!) to fix the MBR and boot back into Vista and use Easy BCD to sort everything out and dual boot.
Annoyingly, when using the recovery disc, it doesn't list my Vista Install.
I think that is the biggest clue to my problem, because at virst I thought it was to do with the fact I didin't have the SATA drivers. But here's the odd thing, I click Load Drivers and notice that it has listed all my partitions on each my my HDDs (3 of them) and the CD drive and drive x.
So I located the drivers I have used before on my HDD and load them. That doesn't work (still no OS listed).
Some other facts that may be of use:
I don't know if the problem lies in the fact that the BIOS only sees 2 of the 3 HDDs (which I find very odd since they all work in Vista!), or somewhere else.
So if anyone can help I'd be extremely grateful.
Many thanks,
Alien
[EDIT] Forgot to add I am currently downloading Ultimate Boot CD to see if that can help.

- When I load up BIOS menu it only lists the 2 SATA HDDs and not the older IDE that Vista is installed on.
- The recovery command prompt won't let me chose any other drive than X (none of the HDDs/Partitions and not the CD either)
