Hi,
I need some help I'm afraid. I've just put together my new upgrades, hit the power button, fans and leds come on but nothing else, no video outputs at all.

The system is as follows: -

ASRock 890GX Extreme3 motherboard
Phenom II 1055T
Corsair HX520 psu
2x2gb Patriot Viper DDR3
Ati 4890 gfx card
OCZ Vertex 2E Bigfoot SSD
Generic SATA DVD
Creative X-fi gamer

As I said, I press the power button and I can see various LEDs come on on the mb, all the case fans start up as does the cpu fan and the gfx card fan but then nothing. The Dr Debug display on the mb just says 00 and doesn't change at all. I have tried unplugging the gfx card and the dvd and connecting to the onboard video outputs (both DVI and RGB) but still no output all.

Any help would be massively appreciated,

Ross

Try taking out the sound card and see what happens. What was the system specs before the upgrades? Hopefully you haven't static killed anything...

Just tried without the sound card, dvd or SSD plugged in and still nothing :(

Previously it was C2D E6300 system so the new parts are the motherboard, cpu, RAM and the SSD, everything else was re-used and was working fine a few hours ago.

Go onto the ASrock website and see of your motherboard has compatibility issues with your PSU.

Sometimes old PSU's have issues with new motherboards. Also try one stick of RAM and test both sticks on there own to see if one of the sticks are faulty.

Ok tried it with 1 stick of RAM and then 0 sticks and still the same result. My psu has both 4 pin and 8 pin mb connectors along with the main 24 pin one. The mb manual says it can work with either and indeed I've tried it with each of them and again, no difference.
Does anyone know what the Dr Debug 7 segment display on the mb should show?. The manual gives a load of codes and sort of suggests that it will cycle through them as the board boots but doesn't say explicitly whether it should change under normal circumstances. For me as soon as the power is applied the 7 seg display comes on at 00 and just stays there. I'm pretty certain the board isn't being held in reset as if I press the reset switch then the 7 seg display and some of the LEDs go off until the reset switch is released.

Did you check to see if the PSU you are using is supplying enough amps on each rail?

I'd double check that as I think you might be a bit low. You could also try and test this by removing the 4890 and using the onboard video, it might not work but would release some stress on the PSU and could help pinpoint the issue.

Unfortunately I don't have any way of measuring the power levels from the psu. I have however tried removing the 4890 and connecting to the onboard graphics and the result is still the same, fans and LEDs on but nothing else.

Ok so I'm now down to just psu, motherboard and cpu installed. I've disconnected all drives and usb devices including keyboard/mouse and removed all addon cards (gfx and sound). The end result is still exactly the same, fans and LEDs come on but no output from any of the onboard video ports and no codes on the 7 seg debug display and no beeps.
I'm guessing now it's likely to be a pysical fault with something and I'm leaning towards the mb as the psu was working fine earlier in the day with my old components.
I may be able to borrow a psu from a friend but I'm not sure yet, can anyone think of anything else I can try before RMAing the mb?

Many Thanks,

Ross

No I've not tried the cpu yet, I'll take that out and check it this evening, thanks.

I've got the list of the codes that the display can show but the manual doesn't make it clear whether I should see it running through the stages as it boots or if it only shows values if it thinks there is problem? Currently it goes to 00 as soon as power is applied (which in the manual is Transfering control to Operating System) and never changes.
