Briefly all I've done is run finstall and it started working ok, then I did the ./folding stop command and then I did the ./folding start command and now it just does this everytime it starts:

[21:56:37] Error: Could not write local file. Exiting.
[21:56:37] - Shutting down core

Help

Try "sudo ./folding start"

You may need permissions to write the file..

(greetings from a mac mini in southern Germany!)

Nope sudo made no difference :(

This is Ubuntu 8.04.1 in VMware, just incase it makes any difference.

(Hello to you in South Germany lol)

Have you set up Samba?

Probably best deleting the work folder, unit.info, and queue file.

Yes I have setup a Samba share.

Deleted work folder and queue file and it's now crunching away haven't tried stopping and starting though.

I used the manual install myself as I could get finstall to work:(
Do you get a terminal window with frame output? If so used Ctrl+C to stop it. That occasionally on restart say incorrect shutdown but it crunches ok.
Good luck.
PS just passed you in the SETI rankings.

I have it installed as a service so I dont have anything onscreen at all.

I'm monitoring it in Fahmon in Vista.

I'm going to have a go at the manual install as well see if I have some better luck.

lol damnit.

I dont run Seti any more unless there's a competition ;)

Are you sure finstall will work - usally take about 4-7 days after the release of a new client for all the automatic links to be updated.

If you set the client up on deadline day (this weekend some time) and then restarted it late last night it might have hit EOL - but should tell you that.

With the manual install - I followed SiriusB's guide - make sure you have the latest version of the files otherwise download or running doesn't work.
The you set up executable notepad shortcuts on desktop to get things going. I have a start one, configonly & oneunit to cover the bases.
Shout if you need some help.

Re: SETI trying to get to 100k & regain my high position from over a year ago. Sometimes it seems more trouble than its worth.

For linuxSMP?

No finstall did exactly the same thing over a week ago as well so It's not the expiration dates that are the problem.

Today just isn't my day.

My mediacentre is still being digusting with it's graphics same problem I had with the 9800 GTX only now it's doing it on an 8600 GT so I'm guessing the 9800 GTX may not be faulty.

Also my laptop PSU just this second exploded :(

Yes - posting this from the Ubuntu VM.
Open text editor (gedit) type
cd ~/folding/FAH
./fah6 -smp -oneunit -verbosity 9
Save file with a name you like i.e. FAH once
Right click icon, properties, permissions tab & put a tick in execute: Voila!

Don't shoot me if this doesn't work for the finstall method.
As I said Ctrl+C shuts down FAH that runs in terminal window.
I've one for configonly & one without oneunit to run normally.
Even got a shortcut for FahMon on the desktop:) Despite the hassle I got that working when I failed with Samba.

Right now what do I use to make FahCore11.exe run at a higher priority than VMware?

Yep, luckily I have a spare multihead laptop PSU which I got when my old laptop PSU started sparking. I's only 0.5v difference in output and can provide more than enough amps.

Edit: Am I right in assuming there is no way to stop the client once it's started

I dont have a terminal window open so I cannot Ctrl+C...

So I have to go find and kil all the threads manually?

Linux seems messy.

Edit 2:

Ok it's all a moot point because i'm still getting the same error message that I started with, even though I'm now installing it manually instead of using finstall.

I.E:
[21:56:37] Error: Could not write local file. Exiting.
