Hiya guys

Ok, this covers several bits of hardware, so I have posted in here as I dont know where to go :)

I have an ASUS P8Z68-V LX Motherboard, and I was fully aware that installing the Corsair H100i into my Antec 1200 Case on the rear where the existing fans are would make the top PCI Express slot unusable, thats fine I thought, I have another one..... lol

On fitting the above watercooler, and then fitting the graphics card in the blue slot, the second blue PCI Express slot is not unusable, and I have a PCI Express Audio Card in the flavour of a Creative Fatal1ty F-XI :(:(:(

So, first question is, as I have an older Graphics card, a Radeon HD 6950, am I going to see real speed drop differences from it if I use the second card slot (its a 4x I have looked in the Manual) or will the card still perform as well as it did in the first slot?

The other alternative is another Socket 1155 Motherboard :(

This Motherboard does have sound on it, not sure how good it is, so an option would be to use it and lose the Fatal1ty I suppose, dont really want to do that though :(

The CPU is an Intel i7 cant remember now what flavour, brought a year ago now, its got 8 cores :)

The ram is Patroit PSD34G133332H--4GB 10600- 1333Mhr CL9 and I have 4 sticks of this

So, anyone have any suggestions coz my brains fried now lol

Cheers

Chris

Roof doesn't have 2 x 120mm, only the back of the case has 2 x 120mm, but even then I'm surprised it still blocks the PCI Express Lane, can you not flip the radiator to have the tubes the other end?

E:\ Buy a new case?

Hey guys

Ok re: the top, no as Reaper said, fans are one thing, but also to make it fit at the top (It can be done) the top fan has to go, not really what I wanted to do

The radiator defo covers the top slot, and if you google it as I did, you will see the replies to this and the antec cases, its a real pain in the arse!

The radiator cannot be upside down, it has to be the way it is I think, but even if it could go that way, it will still block the first PCI Express slot (There the little slots, this MB only has two of them) so no, it wouldnt make a difference im afraid :(

Buy a new case :(

This case cost me shed loads, and although I could sell it I am sure, where my mate had the temp on the Plasma cutter too high first off, its melted a small hole in the top at the rear of the case, doesnt matter to me as its under the worktop anyway, but it would make the difference I am sure if I wanted to sell it

I could go new case route, but the money for that would I suspect be more than replacing the Motherboard?

You only need a standard case that has 2 x 120mm's in the roof, Shinobi range maybe?

Shame you can't mount in the front or the back of the case externally!

Mhhh I will have a look at the Shinobi see what I can find

I am not sure about mounting it outside at the back, it COULD Be done I think, and the Antec 1200 has holes for the tubes, but the Corsair H100i is a sealed system, not sure what would happen if I tried to get the hoses off to make it fit lol

The Shinobi is no good for the H100 nor is the Corsair 300R. Not many budget cases can take the large CLCs.

The Antec GX700 would be ok at around £60 but has no side window unless you want to mod the case. The CM Storm Scout II would take the H100 CLC aswell

This seems ok, would you have the fans at the top of the case, drawing air in over the radiator, or, would you have two sets in push/pull configuration?

Not sure whether to draw air in, or expel it out through the top, I would have *thought* expel it out, this would be better maybe?? drawing air in from everywhere else keeping the incoming air cool, then pushing it out the top??

Is it going to matter if the radiators flat at the top no with the pipe at the bottom as it would be in the upright position?

Cheers guys

Useful trick for keeping a clean system is to have positive pressure (I.e. more fans blowing into the case than out) then putting dust filters on all your incoming fans. That way all dust is trapped on intakes and no air and dust is pulled into the case through gaps in the case.

I worried about running my fans blowing down from the top as it seemed counter intuitive with heat rising but the general concesus appears to be it makes little difference against forced fan air.

I run a 4x120mm radiator in the top of the case which will be covered by a full dust filter as it was much harder to dust filter the 3 x other 120 fans in the case for various reasons (as well as if I ran the fans the other way round I'd have negative pressure).

So long story short, I'd maybe bear the above in mind as to which way round you run it all!

yeah I know it would be a cheaper option, but I have it now lol, and now its more of a "YOU ARE GOING TO BLOODY FIT" than think, ok, air cooler :)
