Now I know this might be too much to ask but I'd like to build a gaming system for less than £600 that will be able to run FFXIV when it comes out during September.

Is it worth trying?

  1. I can't OC so I'll need an OC'd bundle
  2. It will only be used with this game
  3. I only have windows XP

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks,

Turi

a 1gb GTX460 will last for a few years.

could shave a few more £ off buy getting a lesser cpu, but not sure if its worth the compromise.

I don't usually suggest dual core CPUs, but if you're desperate for an OC bundle and you want to get close to your budget this is £598.65 + shipping:

Argon Intel Core i3 2.93GHz @ 4.00GHz Overclocked Bundle £274.99
(£234.03) £274.99
(£234.03)
Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £129.99
(£110.63) £129.99
(£110.63)
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-00599) £79.99

Corsair CX 400W ATX Power Supply (CMPSU-400CXUK) £39.99
(£34.03) £39.99

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3500418AS) £31.71

Xigmatek Asgard Midi Tower Case - Black £26.99

LG GH22NS50 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £14.99

Will still be quite fast in most games.

Would saving the extra £100-200 and getting:

Radon Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz @ 4.00GHz Overclocked Bundle

be that much of a difference?

I haven't been following all these new CPUs while I've been at Uni for the last three years. I'm a little out of touch.

There are a growing number of games which make good use of more than 2 cores on the CPU, so if you want to play the new releases it's a good idea to get a quad core. :)
