Hi everyone
So I have already posted in the bundles section where I have had some really good advice so far Honosuseri kindly told me where I could get some more :-)

Originally I was looking at the AMD A10 Lightning V2" AMD Richland A10-6800K 4.1GHz DDR3 Quad Core Gaming PC as a starter pc for my son but I would be interested in building one from scratch thanks to a video that Honosuseri showed me it actually doesn't look as hard as I first thought :-z

So can anybody spec me a pc for around £430 but in theory if I was to collect bits as I go along (this is an Xmas pressie) then maybe I can go abit higher say £550 can you do one for both lol

I'll keep shhhhh but Ether has already done a spec very similar to what I suggested. It would probably make more sense to pop back nearer the time and we could balance something out then with whatever new tech is available.

You do get more replies if you say what you need for the cash. I.e Tower, Monitor, OS, Keyboard and mouse etc etc. just for future reference :)

Lol sorry

Don't need monitor keyboard and mouse. Errr I want as good as I can get for my money so graphics for running games like skyrim arma III as for an operating system it would be a plus but I like your idea of getting it free for a few months :-)

The reason I'm doing this now is that I've got the money (£430) sat in the bank ready and if I don't spend it on this now I don't think ill get chance again as my youngest wants a laptop for Xmas :-0

Thank you everyone for taking time out to help :-)

RJC has done a better spec as the 7850 will smash what the AMD APU can do. I just tweaked the prebuild to make it better. As you said you might be able to spend a little more.......

YOUR BASKET
1 x **B Grade** Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7850 OC Windforce 2X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card w/ Nexuiz, Sleeping Dogs & Dirt Showd (GX-100-GI) £129.95
1 x Intel Core i3-3220 3.30GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £92.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 8 64-Bit DVD - OEM (WN7-00403) £79.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £52.99
1 x Thermaltake Smart Series 530w Modular '80Plus Bronze' Power Supply £49.99
1 x Gigabyte H61MA-D3V Intel H61 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £47.99
1 x Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (BLS2CP4G3D1609DS1S00CEU) £43.99

1 x OcUK 20x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £14.99
Total : £559.97 (includes shipping : £11.75).

Very similar to RJCs spec but I used a B grade GPU (still has a 3 month warranty) so I could squeeze the OS in if you really wanted to get it from the get go. If you want to use the evaluation OS for a bit you could get a better GPU.

This 7870XT can be overclocked (made to run faster) to match a 7950 which is a £240 GPU. We can tell you how to do this and answer any questions you might have when doing the build :)

Hmmmm what are the main components that I should buy together?you know how I said about spacing cost out so if I was to make a start buying items what would you make sure you bought together?
Cheers ears :-)

you could get Case,PSU,RAM,DVD rewriter and a HDD that just leaves the CPU & Motherboard (Haswell i3 should have been released by then) and maybe the next gen AMD graphic's card's ........ to round it off.

Doesn't over clocking make it run hotter?

Yes that is true. What we do is keep pushing the speed up but there comes a point where it is no longer stable at the higher speed. You can then consider manually increasing the voltage to stabilise it. It's the extra volts that create the heat. It's not difficult to do and their is software to monitor the temps as long as you dont go over 80 degrees you are laughing really. You don't have to overclock it's just an option to get more performance for your cash :)

a lot of GPUs are factory overclocked anyway, you will notice the clock speeds can differ from make to make (My GB suggestion is 975Mhz the MSI is 900Mhz). I mentioned I still have a 1GB 460, that is 675Mhz technically at stock but my GPU was pre overclocked to 776Mhz and I've pushed it to well over 850Mhz. New drivers help the performance and the overclocking has helped a lot. I've had it probably just over two years now and it's still doing a fine job, I probably won't change it till october time when AMD releases new GPUs for Battlefield 4s release.

The 7850s are known to be good overclockers as is that 7870XT I mentioned as it can match a much more expensive GPU but is priced close to the 7850 and 7870s which makes it amazing bang for buck. Either card will do a good job covering your boys gaming habit. There are also lots of free to play games on the PC and there are no subscription fees to play online like with an Xbox.

afternoon :-)

so after a very late night discussing our options with hubby, we tend to think the same as you lot that it might be better to come back around November time to get an updated spec for our pc, I don't want to spend such a big amount (for us) only for newer things to already be taking them over when the time comes :-)

We are definitely going to give building our own a shot though seems like the pre builds aren't as good as you can do yourself, and now I know where to come for help and advice that has tipped the balance. Not sure about getting things as I go along now though apart from the case im guessing there pretty standard? Also how much would it cost to put a blu ray player in?do any of you usually bother with them?

Anyhoo I am extremely grateful for everyones help :-) I'LL BE BACK :-) I know, I know rubbish terminater impression ;-)

I think that's the best way forward. However don't disappear, stay active on the forum! Keep looking in this section to keep uptodate with what's what and you can help others who are in a similar boat to you too. November is ages away and to be honest you should easily be able to get to 250 posts, providing you are in the mainland UK you would then qualify for free P&P :D

Building a PC can be a lot of fun, especially if you try and style it to make it your own. We have done our best to point out the best bang for buck without paying over the odds but there are so many options. That's why we spec on here, it's fun to see what people can balance out to the budget ;)

This case is packed with kit and has a nice side window with blue LED fans and the RAM has blue strobe LEDs on it too. Not essential but certainly makes it very different from PCs just bought off the shelf. I've gone with the APU again and you could look to add a GPU later on. It's common for new GPUs to have free games bundles (makes sense to put that cash into the part rather than buying the games seperate), there are B grade bargains to look at and of course even 2nd hand bargains when people upgrade their machines

Thanks Honosuseri!

Although I'm not quite sure what I could offer the forum

But that case is cool much more what my son would love!

You're welcome. Most people call me Hono....save your keyboard keys if nothing else lol

Hopefully you have learned a thing or two. There are plenty of sections to the forum to contribute in, even if it's just the General Discussion. General Hardware is where you want to be to keep current with what parts to use for your build and see what others are doing.

You don't have to make out you are a Geek Guru. If you see a thread which is similar to what you are doing then you can mention what you have learned.....The AMD APUs are good for an all round budget home PC and can do light gaming, you also know to use fast RAM to help the gaming performance. As you get near to doing your own build it would be wise to start a new thread and doing a practice spec and see what comments you get.

I do use the Z9 U3 case a lot when I do builds, it goes down well. For £50 there is a lot to like, it has a digital temp display and a fan controller which can adjust the speed of the two LED fans and dims them when set to low. It has three fans in total and offers more USB3 ports than the Asgard we have been spec'ing.

I look forward to seeing what you guys settle on in the end.
