Hello, sorry for the slight dumb question, i'm kind of confused about what my last day would be... i work nights at 11pm only on every Thursday, Friday and Saturdays nights and basically finishing sunday mornings. I will be resigning from my job tomorrow Thursday 9th October with 4 weeks notices but having trouble figuring out when my last day would be?

Thanks.

4 weeks from the 9th doesn't matter if you shifts fall on that day or not, that's the last day you will be under their employment.

So i guess its not just me confused about it? I thought i could be the 1st November too?
which means 31st Friday night would be my last night and completely be finished on Saturday morning? i think???

4 weeks from 9th October is 6th November, so that's your last day of employment. Given that you don't work until Thursday nights, I'd assume you wouldn't be asked to work that day - but you need to check with your employer.

Unless your contract specifies notice to be given to a specific point, such as the end of a working week or the end of a pay period, of course.

You work Saturdays, ending on Sunday morning, as per your OP. Your last day of work will begin the 1st. Your last day of employment will be 5th Nov.

I'd go with this. Your contract with the employer will end on a different date than your final shift.

You're the CEO of a major UK Bank aren't you?

You can leave whenever you want.

Notice periods are only guidelines for employees - they can't without pay or holiday due just because you don't work your notice period - there's no legal basis for it and if they did do that you'd have an "unlawful deduction from wages" claim.

Just tell them the date you want to terminate your employment from.

I hope you enjoy your retirement, you've earned it. ;) Now instead of trying to work out when your last day will be, just hand in your notice then don't show up for work.

Your 4 weeks notice finishes in 4 weeks so 9th Nov. You last shift could be sooner depending on your shift pattern, but you will still be "employed" until the 4 weeks are up.
