I want my own domain name to host my email mainly to escape Google's snooping advert bots.

What would you choose for a good domain name.

Be creative, GD

Why not just get something as close to surname.tld or firstinitialsurname.tld as you can get?

I use firstinitialsurname.co.uk (also have .uk). Also own the same format domains for the wife and the little-un, just in case.

The problem with "creative" domain names is that if you need to use them on say a CV/Job Application, you can come across just as bad as those people who have [email protected].

What do you put before the @?

And where do you get your hosting out of interest?

I just checked and I can get diggler.tld so I'm tempted to go for dirk@diggler :p

My first name usually. I'm fortunate in that I've got both an old Gapps account from back when they were free, and an old Outlook account that allowed for custom domains for free also. I guess if push came to shove I could put a mail server on my VPS that's hosted with edis.at, but I'd rather the resilience of a proper mail platform.

You might want to add a few things about yourself perhaps - unless you want everyone to base it off "Dirk Diggler" FFS! :D Like are you going to be giving this e-mail address to family members? Potential employers?

Best one yet :p

Aye, true.

Imagine you were setting up a new email service, what would you want to call it if the company mission was no ads, 100% privacy. How could you sell that to prospective customers and know that people would be happy to have that domain name on their CV?

Imagine an alternative company were the email was going to be shared in an unprofessional environment, and you want the email address to be humorous but not too crude.

One for work, one for(e) play.
