Depends on how often you wash as well, fancy functions and energy saving must not worth the premium.

I would also recommend one where you can change the cabon brushes easily as there are most likely the only thing that need replacing in the future.

My washing machine stopped working, was going to buy a new one but had a go replacing the brushes and it works perfectly fine, save a couple of hundred quid there, but hell of a job getting the motor on these older machine, new ones do have better design tho.

From my experience of Miele I'd say they are the best. They are more expensive but when you're paying that kinda money it's worth paying that little bit extra. Which consistently award Miele products best buys.

I have the 7 series model of the Bosch. Its a very good machine, and no doubt better in the 8 series. Economical, clothes come out warm and rather well spun. We typically use one cycle, the shortest mixed load cycle, which has never failed to get everything nicely clean. Only one issue in the couple of years we've owned it, I thought it was throwing an error fault, until the nice customer support rep informed me it was the child lock that had been activated..... which must have been by our then 1 year old! Felt like a muppet, but thankfully she saved me any callout fee. I wasn't even aware we had a child lock facility.
Recently we spent a fair bit of dosh to replace a fire hazard of a hotpoint tumble drier and eventually plumped for Bosch also, and we're very pleased with it, in every way, noise levels, lint clearance, self cleaning and energy conservation. We noticed a massive difference with it, very surprising.

The LG direct drive machines get a very good deal of good press however I have never tried one.

Or just buy one without carbon brushes. ;)

We had a Bosch Excel and it was fine for the years I used it.

I now have a Samsung WD0804 washer drier with direct drive, two button childlock etc, etc. We use it very often being that there are 5 of us and living in an equatorial country produces a lot of washing. No complaints yet after a few months (1->2 loads per day). Pretty happy with it.

I just bought the LG F1256QD for my rented house as the last one was beyong repair apparently. If buying for my own house I would probably go for a slightly larger capacity and maybe a steam clean function thing.....

Will see how long it lasts
