help me choose a washing machine

We have an LG, had it around 2 and half years now and still washes as good as the day it was put in.

The Direct Drive makes it nice and quiet.

John Lewis and Currys use the same company for service.

LG service is carried out in house.

Having not dealt with LG in my old Job I wasn't aware. I assumed this based on my dealings direct with both Currys (carp) & John Lewis (good) sales staff.

I'd put Whirlpool in that list too, especially after their so called 'customer service' giving me the runaround having to sort out a replacement Washing Machine for a Customer while I was serving my months notice. I was not happy at all.

I've got an LG have to say the direct drive is really quiet. A must as the kitchen is close to living room. Close the kitchen door and you really don't notice the spin cycle over the telly. Washes fine too.

Even taking the 5 year warranty into account?

What is the benefit of the direct drive machines that keep being mentioned? Anything over quieter? Are they more reliable/more efficient?

Found this link about spin speeds which seemed interesting, not sure peoples thoughts...

Oh, and we probably won't have a drier. Air dry/radiators. If something really needs drying, there is a pretty local laundrette.

You have no belt, no carbon brushes and get a 10 year warranty on the motor. I have never replaced a motor on and LG Direct Drive machine because it failed.
