Help me choose an exhaust can

Does a loud can add anything to you insurance premium?

It'll get you a fine from the police if they pull you riding with no baffle. Speaking from experience. And that was being pulled over by a police motorcylist. Who also fined me for having too small a number plate.

Does. Not. Compute...

In all seriousness though, get one with a removable baffle. Then, if you don't want it too loud, you can keep the baffle in. But I'm sure eventually you'll ride without one, they sound SO much better lol.

All the Delkevic ones I mentioned have a removable baffle.

It does depend on how loud it is without the baffle. I've had chats/stops with the police while riding without a baffle in a remus hexacone, and they've not given it a second glance. It's not offensively loud, which a stubby might be.

Totally depends on your insurer to be honest. But what you're looking it, it shouldn't add a great amount, if anything. You're only looking at a bolt on exhaust, not a completely new exhaust system, so it's more an aesthetic thing, as oppose to a performance thing.
Complete new sports exhaust systems, including down pipes and everything, can add a price to your premium as they're designed to increase output power of your engine.

Exactly. My insurer (ebike) distinguishes between "modified exhaust with no affect on power", "modified exhaust with <5% effect on power" and "modified exhaust with >5% effect on power". I declared option (a), along with my R&G bungs and got a cheque for £40 back for a lower premium (was probably the bungs though).

Until you crash and then your insurance company won't pay out for your bike not being what you claimed it to be?

ive claimed few times never noticed my art illegal can,so i wouldnt say its that important, plus if you have it towed back to your house just swap it for your standard can before the assessor arrives

I'd wager that was down to you having a too small of a plate, and while he was there, decided to do you for your exhaust.

I don't think so. At the time I had no idea why he followed me. I nodded as I went past him, wasn't speeding either.

The first thing he asked me was if I was aware of the amount of complaints that had been made about loud motorcycles in the area. The number plate figures were only 10mm shorter than standard, that was his extra complimentary kick in the balls.

Mivv X-Cone on a Z750... it was like strapping on a megaphone.

However, I've since got rid of the inline 4 and moved on to a triple, much better soundtrack. :p

best to keep it standard or legal, inc plates/visors/cans ect, coppers are always looking for the slightest thing to pull you, been pulled for dark visor in the past, now i stick to clear visors

As long as you get a road legal and stamped exhaust id def go aftermarket. Any aftermarket can will be louder than the standard, loud is good but you dont want stupidly loud cans as its more hassle than its worth. I had a micron Gp can on my GSXR k7 600 and on static testing at snetterton it was 114db at 7k with baffle in!!!!!!!!! it was stupidly loud in hindsight. Now i run a Scorpion road legal can.

So in summary, id go for an oval can.

I decided on the tri-oval in carbon (with removable baffle) in the end but when I placed the order it was out of stock so I went for the carbon oval (with removable baffle).

Now it's on the bike I'm glad I got the oval and becuase of the out of stock Delkevic also threw in a free gift of a swiss army bike tool thing which is on their website for £10!

I'm very happy with the way it sounds and have been running it with baffle out.

whether it's road legal or not or insured or not doesn't matter - if it contributed to it getting nicked or crashed they will likely dump you a bill - otherwise you should be ok.

i know from experience how far the bike can differ from what's stated and it's allowed!

FWIW bike insurers are more open to modifications whereas car insurers crap themselves as soon as you mention different colour something...
