If you had to choose, which one would you go for?

HTC Desire C
HTC Desire X
Samsung Galaxy Ace
Sony Xperia Miro

I am limited because these are what I can get through work, i'll be wanting to unlock it because it ill be locked to Vodafone.

Would I need to root it before I could Sim unlock any of the above?

You don't need to root to unlock it.

The Galaxy Ace is the lowest performing out of them so ignore that. The Desire X is the best one out of the lot, so I would go with that.

Cheers Desire X it is.
I may want to remove the vodafone bloatware and change the rom, I take it I would need to root it before I could do that?

Yes you'll have to root & even install a custom recovery if you want to change the rom.

You can find more info over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1846

It might be a bit overwhelming if it is your first time doing it so take your time & read lots.

If it's a business phone you might want to have a word with the chap handing them out to make sure that ROMing it is OK because some companies really don't like rooting etc..

If they are rolling them out en masse make sure they arn't running vodafone SDM agent to administer the phone because this thing is not going to agree with your rooting plans either :(

Thanks for all the replies. They arent bring rolled out on mass and I work in the same department as the mobile team. My colleague who is ordering will check with Vodafone to see if they can unlock it.

I have a Sony Miro and it's not a bad phone, however the 512MB RAM is pathetic given modern phones. It's only a toy to me whilst I learn about the Android OS.

You should be able to debrand it without 'ROMing' it, it's possible to change the CID with a few adb commands, so set that to HTC__001 (or SuperCID it) and run an unbranded RUU.
