So now I can upgrade my graphics card(finally).

Il be getting one the end of next week.

Budget is £640

My budget I can not go over.

My current card is in my sig, same as my system.

I have no idea what card to go for I wasn't the fastest card out of the box, as I do not think many over clocks are 24/7 suitable(runs and hides for saying this)

so I have no idea which card is best between the makes and models, there are so many now. after the card Is setle din I do plan on playing and ocing it a bit.

IS x2 290xs within my budget ?
Does my mother board even support x2 Nvdia or amd cards.

When I finally pic the card which is the best way to connect it to my monitor.
HDMI - - DVI ---display port if the card has it.

I currently game on a 27 inch monitor at 1900x 1200 hoping to move over to a 29 inch super widescreen.

So if you recommend a 780ti wich make and model and why you think its better.

or as I said do I have enough cash for x2 amd cards, I would prefer NVidia tbh.

Thank you for the help in advance.

Every part of you're rig (motherboard, PSU, case ect) suit having 2 x 290's..

The only thing that doesn't is your budget:

YOUR BASKET
2 x MSI Radeon R9 290 Gaming Edition 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £367.99 (£735.98)
Total : £745.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

To keep it in budget either get 1 290 now (then save up an extra £100 for another one)

Or get 2 x 280X's

YOUR BASKET
2 x MSI Radeon R9 280X Gaming Edition OC 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £259.99 (£519.98)
Total : £529.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

I'd personally go 1 x 290 now and add another later on.

As £640 is hard limit there's 1 choice you need to make: SLi/Crossfire or not?

At 1920x1200 you don't need crossfire/Sli, but if you plan to go higher within next 2-3 years then you will. (ofc u can then go sli/crossfire at that time).

SLI/Crossfire:
2x AMD 280x is probably the best. You won't be able to get two 780's or r290's. And the Nvidia option of 770 and 680 has only 2GB VRAM which is a no go.

No SLI/Crossfire:
AMD 290 or Nvidia 780, enough for 1920x1200 and you can use the extra money to either get a better monitor or save for crossfire/sli in future.

AMD 290X or Nvidia 780ti, both won't necessarily be required and is definitely not the best bang for your money (especially the 780ti). Granted, both are within your budget and if you want the fastest single gpu card then the 780ti is the one (as you favor nvidia).

Worth reading up on Mantle/true audio for AMD, and Gsync for nvidia before making your decision.

Personally, if i knew i was upgrading monitors soon and maybe will have an extra £100-200 when i do, i'd grab 1x 780 now and sli later.

Thank you for the replies.

I do infact plan on upgrading my monitor in April(my birthday)
I*t would increase my gaming resoloution from 1900 x 1200 to around 2560 x 1080 .

I have read different opinions that a single 780ti could handle this resoloution quite easily or a amd r9 290x, if this is incorrect please advise, it seasm the more I read the more confusion there is lol. I did not nessasary want to go sli/crossfire was thinking of it as an option, is sli /cross fire more supported now because the worrying thing is , if a game is not supported or is buggy you would have to revert back to a single card anyhow, again im no expert just what I read.

and no body answered my question about the best way to connect to a monitor ((((

Please keep the posts coming
Thank you

I would get a good Nvidia gtx 780 if I were in your shoes. If you would like to play with overclocks then the msi lightning or classified (whichever is cheaper), both come with excellent coolers and is quiet. Not sure with super widescreen needs a different connection, but i'd imagine DVI-I would suffice? Thats how i've connected all my monitors anyway.

If I was to choose a NVidia 780ti(which its looking like

Which one to get way to much choice lol

funds depentant

cheers for the replies

So you'll miss the This Week Only deals?

If so, and if you want out of the box performance, Gigabyte's Ghz Edition makes sense out of the 780ti's. Then get ASUS' upcoming 27", 1440p, 120hz, G-Sync monitor instead of one of those ultra widescreens ;)

A single 290/780 now and then Crossfire/SLI in the near future would give you more performance for your money, though. Your current rig is practically made for dual GPUs.
