Help me chose some ram.....

I don't get why 4 is cheaper than 3? as I thought lower numbers were better?

I currently have this ram:

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 DHX PC2-6400C4DHX TwinX (2x1GB) @ 4-4-4-12

Would I be better to go for number 2 and have 4x1gb or sell my ram and go for number 4? or go for 4 AND keep my ram aswell?

Or even go for this:

5) 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair TwinX DDR2 XMS2, PC2-8500 (1066), 240Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 5-5-5-15, EPP £53.99 £62.09

It's all a bit confusing but I have till 12pm if I want them at these prices :)

For info my mobo is a standard Asus P5K (one with super memspeed technology) and I will be using a q6600.

This Quad :) I've currently got an e2160, but I'll put that on the MM and use a Q6600 instead, I would also very much like to overclock it to the best of it's ability :)

Hi Guru, first of all let me apologise, I'm not quite sure how I missed you mentioning which CPU you have. :(

The memory that you are looking at buying (Option 4) will be absolutely fine. If you are looking at overclocking, then you will be able to overclock your Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 all the way up to 3.6GHz without even having to worry about weather or not your memory will hold you back. This is providing that you have a chip that will be able to reach that kind of speed before temperatures come into play.

If you are looking at overclocking beyond 3.6GHz then I'm sure the Corsair memory has a bit of room to run at a faster speed itself. However, this isn't guaranteed. You also have to take into account that there are other factors that come into play when you reach around the 3.6GHz mark such as weather the motherboard you have will be able to reach a high enough FSB (Front Side Bus) and one of the most limiting factors especially if you are on air cooling, will be the temperatures.

I'm honestly not quite sure while option 4 is cheaper than option 3 since it is actually better memory due to the lower CAS latency timings. Though, sometimes you do get the odd pricing mistake. :p
