I can't seem to finish a lot of recent fps games, I either get stuck on them or get bored with em, please help me to like the games again and encourage me to finish them.
I only finished a few fps games:
CoD
CoD : UO
CoD2
Moh series all of them, inc. PA and A.
HL2, upto ep1: Getting ep2 in just a bit so no worry's about this.
Portal: finished story but didn't want to play the advanced chambers after :(.

But on:

Far cry: I got stuck & annoyed in the river level, stopped playing because I died just before a checkpoint where it saves and didn't want to redo half the lvl again. Is there a mod that allows me to save anytime, this would definatly help me get into it again :).

Quake 4: I'm stuck on the Dispersal facilty at top of stairs where a lot of them goons come up, they're bloody hard to kill I'm playing on medium or hard can't renember, tried lvl this a lot and just can't move on.

Doom3: I just got somewhere on the beginning, all I had was a pistol and I just got stuck at a place where there's a zombie coming for me but I'm out of ammo, really want general gameplay help for this game :(.

Bioshock:
I'm at olympus heights and stopped playing because:
- just lost interest
- Annoyed with jaggies everywhere, why is there no AA in this game , is there any way to get AA in, prefer to have a jaggie free game and sacrifice shadows or shaders or textures or whatever than to let be it like it's like atm?
- FPS drop when big daddy's get in sight, usually to around 15-20 fps, wich is not rly playable considering it's a FPS.
- And something about shooting, it's just very odd and feels unsmooth even though my fps are 35.

UT2004

I just can't beat the last lvl boss 1 on 1 match, he's too strong for me wich is odd as I've tried it on lowest difficulty but still can't beat him, while in a normall deathmatch I'm about the same lvl as an ''inhuman'' lvl ai.

Halo2
I often get annoyed by the odd FoV and by the odd controlls that I can't reassign, am I doing something wrong or is there really no way to edit all the controlls? Ahwell can't play this anyhow till I do a Vista repair install.
Stuck I think somewhere at some square where I dunno where to go (sorry for being fague, I can't fire up the game atm and check what lvl because of vista disliking a mobo change.

Stalker, shadow of Chernobyl
I just don't know what on earth to do, I did the first intro mission, but I have no idea where to go now, where to hang around, and some of the mission objectives don't show up on the map I believe, I'm being shot at for no reason by unknowns etcetc, I really need help with this.

F.E.A.R.
Stuck & bored @ Euxet omnes, it's quite hard at this point and just boring imo, any idea how I can regain interest in this? Also what's the best way for killing all the goons?

Well actually for all games where I said I lost interest, can I get any hints or something for me to get into them again? Please help me finish some of these games as I really enjoyed huge bits of a lot of above named games but just stopped playing em for reasons stated.

And finally: What new singleplayer shooters can you great people of OcUK recommend to me, is Lost planet any good? Or Call of Jueranez ( or whatever it's called) ?
Thanks in advance and please help me finish the games lol, any hints / help / info is very welcome.

I played FarCry as new and with no patches it had some bugs and could crash to desktop so I used a German peeps Quick Save APP, you ran game with it then you could save anytime or run with normal Shortcut and not affect your orignal game saves.

I only did it as on River level it crashed all the time, I had to use it near end level too.

Once the patches came out I went back and did those 2 parts without quick saves as it spoils the game to "cheat" as it aint supposed to be played with quick saves which I know can be a PIA but if others can do it so can I and you.

I just find it plain annoying in farcry, as I end up having to redo massive bits.
Ahwell my original questions still stand for all other games.
Also would like some new games to try after I'm done with all above named.:)

Seems you just need general FPS practice, none of these games are particularly hard to complete.

Or if you get bored maybe FPS is not really your thing?

ALso if you get 30fps max then maybe your rig is holding you back? Playing any fps with a bad framerate or one that drops makes it much more difficult.

Well a lot of reasons look what I said after the game:

But to sum up
Too hard:

Far cry
Quake 4
Doom 3
UT2k4 just last lvl.

Bit boring:
Bioshock
Stalker
Fear

Other reasons
Halo2

However not just those reasons, see behind the game in first post what all the reasons per game are.

Yeah I know for some games my 6800GS is a bit too slow, cpu is fine it's actually an E6400 @ 3.2 ghz...

SP FPS are definatly my thing I enjoy all them games even the games I got bored a bit with.
MP fps even more but atm a bit bored with all of em so I'm looking to finish and get new sp fps...

Doom3 tips: Sounds like you need to be a bit more careful with your ammo usage. Also hunt around in cabinets and take note of any codes you see as they may unlock cabinets full of guns/ammo etc. Vs zombies just use pistol and save your shotgun ammo for tougher situations.

CoD: This is a fairly easy game, took me under a day to complete. Make sure you conserve health packs for when you really need them (i.e. don't grab if you have 93h or whatever) and maybe consult a walkthrough if a particular section is giving you trouble.

Bioshock: Lay off games like this until you get a better gfx card, on focus on the others. CoD/CoD:UO and the first 3 MOH games all use Quake3 engine so should run OK on your system.

FEAR: Doesn't really get interesting, so if you are bored I'd give up now until you get some spare time.

Far Cry: This is actually a reasonably hard (but rewarding) FPS. There's a console command you can use to save progress although be warned it ****s up the radar etc sometimes.

UT2004: Haven't played this myself but it is probably supposed to be hard being the final boss. I still haven't been able to beat the Xaero in Quake3 on Hardcore difficulty, nevermind Nightmare.

TY, will try doom 3 again.

CoD etc: Yes if you reread my original post, the games at top are actually the ones I actually have finished :).

Bioshock: well hopefully within the next few months I'll manage to save up and get the 8800GT, with luck I'll be able to play all games in full glory again @ 1280x1024 ( okay except crysis ) :) .

As for the new games: Serious Sam 2 and Lost planet both caught my attention, are they any good as except for the unfinished games in the OP I'm also looking for new games, so how are they?

Farcry ill just try to redo it without quicksaves for now as it's been quite awhile since I've played it, need to fix Vista first tho as that's the OS I was playing it on...
But if it doesn't work, I'll certainly try quicksave.

Lost Planet is pretty crap, just another dodgy console port like Halo, in fact it even has hardcoded hints in the game telling you to press XB360 buttons... :( I played a few levels until I faced this massive worm thing coming out the ground, got stuck and then realised that there was no point carrying on anyway as the game is no better than average 5 year old games.

Serious Sam 2 is good fun, not quite as manic as the original ones but a bit 'slicker' and easier. Great if you want a pure arcade shooter.

Shame their is no fear co-op mode i think that would have been sweet.

Also why all new fps games, 1999 was a golden age of gaming for pc, ok gfx wernt that great but the gameplay out then was amazing, homeworld, fs2 i believe, ut99 etc. Should try these ones out around that time zone.

Heres a co-op list of games, if u wana try some.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Cooperative_video_games (not all pc tho :( )

Heres some freeware ones, dinohunters or whatever its called looks nice from the screenie. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_free_first-person_shooters

Okay I'm getting SS2 for now, some of the free games look interesting: The Kill Point: Game caught my attention, migth try it too once I finish some games.
Okay I'll stay away from Lost planet.
I'm really after a bit more modern games skeet: Past 2003 or so...
Although I'm used to old graphics ( mohaa, bf1942, etc... ) I find it harder to get into the older games now than the more recent games with better graphics.

If you want an arcady fps game, i really loved Painkiller, you need to learn the movement to get the most out of it, but i thought it was a better alternative to the serious sam games.

Timeshift which is being released soon as a pretty arcady feel to it, and a nice touch to be able to shift time:P

Right, I've started a lot of new games again yet finished only one game since I posted this thread:
CoD4

But I've started:
Serious sam 2
HL2 EP2
GoW
Postal 2 Share the pain
and about 5 other games

and I still haven't finished em :(.

Well that's half of your problem right there, you've started 10 new games. Focus on only a couple at a time instead. If I started 10 new games in the space of 5 weeks I doubt I'd have finished many either.
