For example in a cpu bound game like GTA5, the 9700k @ 5.1 returns an average of 114 frames where the stock 9700k returns an average of 108 frames. A difference of 6 frames.

Another example from Gamers Nexus shows that at higher resolutions, the benefit is even less;

9700k at 5ghz might get few more frames when your current due to speed . May find yourself going Ryzen 3800x to be honest , cheaper and sets you up for games being coded better hopefully for next gen consoles using Ryzen cores
