Help me decide.

That deal is not very clear. I think it means pay £36 for 24 months and you have to claim back 12 months at half price. In the end after claiming cashback it works out £27 pm.

ooooo dear, good thing i checked here first.

hmm.

back to the drawing board :o

will give them a call tomorrow to confirm this.

and Nexus, that offer you posted from secure-mobiles is pretty good, but has anyone had any experience with them?

The website is mobiles.co.uk, which is very good, just comes up as secure-mobiles as that is link to the basket/check out :p

EDIT:

Regarding that affordable mobile deal

So I am guessing this is the correct calculation:

(12x27) + (12x36) = £756

that is very dodgy indeed.

not sure whether i should use mobiles.co.uk which offers better mins/text/data or tesco which is a more known company but offers less min/text/data.

if kona's guess on how affordable mobiles cashback works, then i think i would have to stay away from them, as i dont think we can afford £36/month

Can't go wrong with either, the main plus of tesco, is that if something were to go wrong with the device, you could just pop into your local tesco store and sort something out rather than dealing over email/phone.

yeah, and from feedbacks, mobile's phone centre isnt free and seem to take time, whereas my nearest tesco shop is just 10min walk away :D
is unlimited mins/text, 500mb more data, worth it?

gosh, so many questions! :D

Yup!

Depends entirely on your usage, no point if you don't even use half the allowance :p The more data the better IMO, although if you're on wifi most of the time like me :D :p then it probably isn't worth worrying about.

this will actually be my first time being on data allowance.
and i would probably be on WiFi half of the time and will only use the data when in school when im bored in class :D
and when i do, its probably not that much, just checking emails/HUKD/forums etc.
is it possible to constantly have my email accounts update every say hour?
like get real time updates, if so, how much data would this use roughly?

1GB would be more than enough then.

With gmail, the emails don't sync but are "pushed" to your phone as soon as the email is received. With other accounts like hotmail, you can just add them via the settings in gmail on your PC/laptop so it will work the same or you could use apps if you wanted, but you wouldn't have the realtime/push method, it would sync/check every 1 or 2 hours (whatever value you choose), will use hardly anything checking for emails etc.

hi, it looks like i will be going for the Tesco deal after all.
and i still can't convince my mom to stay away from the 4S!

thanks everyone for the help and suggestions, especially you Nexus :)

Enjoy and no problem :)

Pffft, no hope for her :p, maybe she will see the "light" when you have both the 4s and GS 3 side by side and compare some things :p

If I were you I wouldn't try to persuade her otherwise. If she goes for something else you'll get the blame for every tiny thing she doesn't like or that goes wrong!

The S3 is leagues above the 4s and it is cheaper. Unless she is heavily tied into the Apple ecosystem, I would tell her to go play with an S3.

yeah, your right, and then shell be stuck with it for 2 years!

and Locke, shes not really tied into it as this will be her first Apple product, but i think her main reason for wanting one is that, all her friends have it. :o

ahhhhh, just got the phone through the post there now :D

what do i do now?

still haven't turned it on

whats a good way to prolong the battery life?

Put your SIM card in maybe? :p

Just put it on the charger and turn on to have a play with it, no need to leave it till it is fully charged.

Here is what I recommend you do with your phone to help battery life etc. even more :)

Best thing to do, is keep GSM only mode enabled when you are not needing a fast connection (even if you're on wifi) and when you are out and about and need a fast connection, manually switch to WCDMA only mode.

Disable any apps that you don't need in settings>apps>click on app>disable at top right

Don't have weather etc. syncing every 30 minutes etc. set to something like 2 or 3 hours.

Manually control the screen brightness as auto makes the battery life worse, install qbright from the market and set a gesture so when you swipe up or down on the homescreen or dock icons this app is opened like the below:

kaOcS.jpg.png
I have it set to currently; night is 0%, indoor 30%, outdoor 50% and sunshine 70%

Keep wifi on as much as possible and set to never sleep

Keep GSM mode selected instead of WCDMA in mobile network settings as one; the voice reception is stronger and better battery life even when connected to wifi I found.

If you aren't going to be using any internet at all for quite while (meaning no need for weather, emails to sync etc.) then turn wifi and mobile network data off.

Only enable WCDMA when you want to browse or stream something (only when wifi is not possible)

Don't use any form of a task killer, if an app isn't responding just use the built in one.

hi, thanks agian nexus, i did everything you said :)

and how do you keep your app screen so tidy?
mines just all over the place with three pages full of **** as well as my widget screen. :(
