hi

im looking for an app that will help me slim down my work load.

ive got to do some work which involves visiting some random locations taking a few photos and recording and easting and northing. then once back in the office i am required to enter this data onto a GIS.

i was wondering if there is an android app that i can use on my X10 that will allow me to take photos and co-ordanites at the same time, which will also upload to say google maps or give me a file that i could import to a gis system?

any help much appreciated

photos are geocoded by the default android camera, so the co-ords should be in the EXIF data. They're latlang, not easting / northing though - but there's plenty off convertors around i'm sure.

What is a GIS system? What do you want outputting? What you are asking is pretty simple (assuming the format is simple) from a programming point of view.

Basically I have to do a legality survey of all road signs over a 130 mile stretch of road.
In the past this has invoiced teams of people going out taking a photo of each sign and then using a walking GPS collecting a coordinate for each sign and drawing a small plan of all junctions and gateways. Wrighting this all down on forms then once back the office transferring the data to a database and spread sheets to do a report and if possible show sign locations on a map.

This time around I've been contracted in to do this small stretch on my own, I thought if I could use the g3ocoding to auto plot the signs on say Google maps that would be half the work done then I wouldn't have to sketch plans and redraw then in the office. As then all I would have to do is record picture number and sin conditions.

Basically I just need to do hundreds of points of intrest for sign locations but if o could auto log a photo that would be great.

Th problem with what you are suggesting is that it won't be accurate. If you stand 10m away to take a photo of a sign, and the location gets recorded, it will be 10m away from the northing and easting you want. You could always take a token photograph underneath the sign but that defeats the point of what you are trying to achieve.

Neat idea though; would be great as a surveying tool if you can get it to work.

The photos are normally within 4m of the sign face which is close enough accuracy for this. Plus I could stand onto of the sign location and take a POI for coordinates only?.

So no program around that can log geotag photos with out put to Google maps in kml it Geo RSS or the like?

used vignette in the end which loaded up to picsca, then out putted a kml file to load into My Maps.

vignette gives an accuracy count down so most photos can be taken within 2m accuracy :) if you stand still for a few moments.

so X10 was a real disappointment as sony have gimped the geo tagging on this phone by using their own format which dose not work with google maps or any geo tag software as they dont see the location data.

this is because sony phones only take 2 geo tags per photo long and lat. where as the normal format is 4 tags long , lat, height and one other.
