Remove plug from socket when you want to turn it off? I can't see what you want existing.

i don't like pulling and reconnecting plugs whilst the extension is switched on, ive seen sparks and ive had the main fuse blow in the past

The wife bought some socket timers a few months ago, the switch on the top of them is to either have the device on or on a timer.

Could you use one of those and just don't set the timer to be on at any time, then when it's on timer it's off?

Be warned they make a fair amount of noise, will probably be more annoying than the light on the PSU.

I was trying to find a tower version of one of these - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Status-Individually-Switched-Protected-Extension/dp/B007WCPLF8/ where each socket in the extension has its own power switch

all sorted, went into Robert Dyas and picked up a timer thing, which can be switched on or off manually, no noise from it
