Hi all.

So I've recently had a new case and moved the parts into it. But now when I turn it on, I get no video. The monitor goes into power saving mode. At 1st it did come on....for about a few milliseconds. I've checked the cables and everything is inplace. I've moved parts from case to case plenty of times so I know it's nothing I've done physically to damage anything.

Motherboard- asrock 970 extreme3 r2
CPU- AMD fx 4300
Gfx- sapphire Radeon r9 270x 2gb
Memory- Kingston Hyper X 8gb

Things I've done so far.
Unplugged and plugged everything in again.
Unplugged all new fittings that is in case and tried turning on.
Tried monitor on laptop (worked)
Reset cmos

1 major thing about this motherboard is that it has no onboard VGA/hdmi connection. A gfx card must be used so I can't even view the bios. Has anyone got any ideas that I could try before I go pay £40 for someone to tell me whats wrong lol

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Not connected. The gfx card had no manual so I presumed it was plug in and go. Not sure where it connects on the card though. I didn't get any cable to connect to that hdmi on mobo. Only a crossfire cable

may sound silly but have you tried re seating the GPU?

when you turn the PC on does the GPU get power? does the fans spin up etc?

is the PSU a modular one at all? if so check the cables going to the PSU and the GPU.

from a quick google search I see the motherboard as 2 x PCI E slots for SLI\Crossfire, have you tried the other PCI-E slot to see if that works?

Yes I've tried that. Haven't tried the other PCI yet though. I'll give it I try now.

@Vesper no its a VGA screen. No hdmi

The exact same. I probably could try a hdmi to VGA. Currently don't have one tho. Would have to find one somewhere

Btw thanks for the patience from you lot. Didn't think I'd get this much help

The card powers with both fans spinning, all system and CPU fans work, the HDD and dvdrw work. It's just not displaying on screen. The screen doesn't say no input signal, just says power saving mode and then goes to standby.

There are 2 dvi connections but can only use the white one as that's what the adapters for. 1 hdmi and the other connection looks a bit like a sata connection

I've connected the pc to a tv with VGA but no hdmi on it and the monitor. I hooked a laptop to the monitor and it worked. I don't have any hd screens to try the hdmi port but as vesper stated, I could try An adapter from hdmi to vga. I've just gotta try and find one.

The monitor that keeps going into power saving mode is the same monitor I've used with this build for a few months.

Ok this may be a silly question but could it be anything to do with cable management? This case has management but the other case didn't. Could the spare Molex, sata etc have an eeffect when touching theccase? They are stashed behind the mobo

No I don't have another gpu. So if I get an adapter and it doesn't work and if if I get another gpu to try then that works, the problem is the gpu im guessing.

Hopefully if this is the case I think I have warranty on the card so not to bad. I'll see what I can do and I'll post back. Thanks again for the help guys

Hi all. It's working.g now. The GPU was fine and the rest of the hardware is good. The problem was with the motherboard stand offs. I forgot to take 1 out and it was on the board. My partner did remind me aswell but I didn't listen lol. Luckily the board has something to prevent shorting :D

Anyway thanks for trying to help me solve it
