Help me get a 2.8KVA Petrol generator Started

Things I have tried today, took the air filter out again and tried to get it started, chugged a few times and a loud backfire here and there. Took plug out it was a little bit wet, but i dipped the tip in some fresh petrol and put i tiny bit in the cap and threw that down engine where the spark screws in. Tried to start a few times wouldnt kick over, no real signs again apart from a backfire.

Under the carb there is like a copper or bronze bowl thing that has two screws, undone one of the screws and about 2 cap's of fuel came out, that was emptied, done screw up, went to start, took a few goes it backfired once, then started for about 10 seconds, it was dying so I opened the choke a little but I couldn't save it. Wouldn't kick over then again.

:(

Do you think its worth buying another plug?

Did find a good guide though which re-iterate what's been said in this thread, when I have some time next weekend possibly I am going to go at it from the start.

Another random guess, inline fuel filter, another victim of varnishing maybe.

I've known this before, the innards came loose, allowed for around 10-20 seconds of run time and then it would conk out through lack of fuel, when the fuel pump stopped the innards backed off and allowed fuel through again, so eventually it would start again ...... cycle repeat.

Carb jets blocked no question. As mentioned previously in the thread. Go look up some guides on how to clean them out. Once done im sure it will run sweet.

Remove the spark plug and put another one in the hole to prevent fuel ignition, put the spark plug back in to the ht lead and hold it against the metal block of the engine, get someone to pull the starting cord a few time and make sure there is a good spark.

Two things; the spark gap could be wrong, the plug could be kaput or the spark generator could be bad (usually this will be a small coil and a series of magnets built in to the fly wheel under the starter pull)

I've known there to be rust on the flywheel which causes problems with the coil, might be worth a look

There's only so many problems it could be- fuel starvation, ignition, air and fuel mixture, spark, bad wiring for a kill switch or similar.

Hi all, managed to get the carb off, would anyone recommend any household additive to clean this? or does it have to be carb cleaner?
