Ive got a 500gb Lacie drive, last week i threw the power supply out to what i thought was an old cable modem. I thought i lost the lacie adapter so went on a mad hunt for about 6 hours, I tried a laptop adapter because it had the same connection but didnt work (green light powered on though)

I remembered binning the modem adapter to dug it out and tried it on the lacie drive but it didnt power up and no green light.

Turns out i binned the lacie power adapter, although im sure it was the cable modem one.

So, I have either knackered my drive by plugging in the laptop adapter (higher output voltage and amps) or the plug i binned is slightly damaged by sitting in the bin for 3 days (although it still powers the cable modem)

Has anyone got a Lacie drive with adapter in the leeds area that i could test on mine before either buying another adapter for £22 that may not work or opening the drive to try it on my pc. -Doing the latter wont solve much if it does work because i need it to power from mains and something may be damaged on the mains input to the drive

Cheers

just open up the lacie drive, it's just a hard drive inside

if you've got no pc to plug it into, buy an icybox and plug it into that

i've replaced loads of lacie cases with icyboxes, the failure rate of the lacie boxes is shocking

£85 for a hard drive enclosure?! Think i might just take the drive back if the enclosure is knackered

edit - do you open up the lacie drive by sliding down the back then lifting the back lid off? (no screws?)
