Help me get to the bottom of this temp issue (c2d)

Shouldn't the over temp throttling kick in way before it ever reaches 85degrees?

I'd say that if you want low temps and good overclocks you need to be lapping..

thanks for your input. What is funny is that the first time I put on the heatsink the footprint on the bottom looked like it was making full contact with the cpu. Its has been on and off a couple of times now and the grease mark on the bottom has looked like it hasnt been making full contact..only partial. Is there a safe way to lap the top of a CPU? I have done heatsinks before..but never the actual CPU itself...any advice?

I did the razor blade test on my E6600 and there was a clear gap

I'm also reaching 60C priming under water @ 3.6. I could pull everything apart and lap it to try and get to 3.8 and/or get the temps down, but every time I think about it a little "meh" pops up in my head and I settle back down to game

LOL!

Me too...can never be bothered with the hastle...allthough I might give this a go. The good thing is that it only gets to 70C full load piming both cores...65 priming one core and 60-65C when gaming....so its safe.

Still...Im gona pull the heatsink off again and do the razor blade test on the CPU and heatsink..and if it needs it...im gona do it. Still want some tips on doing the CPU though...Dont wana break it!

Over temp operates at 80ºC on the 6600.

Yeah thermal throttling ramp starts at around 60c.

the white papers dont make it very clear to get it exact.

I have had my c2D at 122c and the mainboard did'nt shut down (dissabled), most boards will shut down the CPU for over temp way before the CPU's internal thermal management does.
