Lightbulb in my room went this morning and took out all the other lights on this floor (3 story house, ground floor and top floor are OK). I've had lightbulbs go before but they don't normally take out others.

What does this normally indicate? and more importantly how is it fixed? :D

You might have an overloading circuit which will have tripped your main switch or blown a fuse.

If you live in a really old building with old wiring, this indicates that there is a short circuit occurring and it is potentially a fire hazard.

Get an electrician to check it out!

I think possibly you have cause and effect backwards here.

It is more likely that you had some event that simoultaneously blew all of the bulbs on that ring.

get your hands soaking wet and start randomly playing with the fuse box / distribution board.

Cheers guys, yeah it's not an old house it's fairly new (less than 10 years old) so I hope they were smart enough to wire it up right! :)

I don't know what caused them all to blow, all I know is that I flicked the light switch, heard that clinking sound you get when a bulb blows, and then all of a sudden all the light bulbs wouldn't turn on, wasn't running loads of electric devices or anything... odd :(

It happens from time to time, if its not regular (as in however long a bulb usually lasts) then I wouldn't worry, it if happens a lot then call a sparky.

Check all your plugs and switches just to be on the safe side and look out for any plugged in devices with burnt out adapters or fail to switch on

Check the fusebox and if a switch has tripped then you should be able to switch it back on but be careful in case there is smell of burning or burn marks.

You could try replacing the bulb and sort out the fuse box. It might have been a electric surge that caused the trip.

It might have been a one off but definitely worth getting a sparky in for piece of mind.

Cool so we think it's a tripped fuse, sounds most likely anyway, how is it fixed normally when a fuse is tripped, without killing myself (no i'm not going to cover myself in water and play with the fuse box)

Find the fuse box, you will notice there are a whole bunch of flip switches on there, one of them will be different to the rest, flip it back.

Just out of interest, are you a girl?

Nope, not my house so no idea where the breaker lives :)

I can't really do anything until I can find that.
