Help me!New mobo, processor & ram cant get it to ru

Well now that you have established that your daughters PSU works in part on your new set-up try setting your system up outside of the case on a big box to try and rule out the case and clear CMOS before booting up as it sounds like something, somewhere in that case is casuing a short.

EDIT: oh and just use 1 stick of ram

Hi there, yes they are in slots 1 and 2. I just got in from work & decided to take out the reset switch cable, it then proceeded to boot. I put in my dvd drive to install drivers etc from the disc, turned on, got to windows but disc would not load, no problem me thought though download it, mouse & keyboard refuse to work. shut down system then installed wired keyboard &.......stop n start again.

I will try that tomorrow getcarter

thanks all, getting closer i hope lol

Hi all, I am now writing this from the troublesome upgrade, problem is the motherboard is sat on its box, the psu is from my daughters pc. When I first tried to boot with this setup it continuously looped start & stop as before. Then it booted, I installed drivers etc OK, restarted and it booted. I shut it down & installed all memory & it booted again. Now my question is, is it my case (Antec Mini P180) or my cheap PSU? Can I purchese insulating washers to sit on the brass standoffs on the mobo in case this is shorting?

Any ideas greatly appreciated & thanks for all your help so far

So it all works with the old psu outside the case? Have you tried the new psu with it set up outside the case? If the standoffs are in the correct places i can't see how it would short out on the case. You can get fibre washers to insulate the board/standoffs but you would have to either stick them to the bottom of the board or the tops of the standoffs to stop them falling off. Personally i have never used them between board and standoff but do use them to protect the board from being damaged by the screw head.

I put it back in the case and its endless reboots again, not even getting to bios. I have tried with both psu's. Could it be the case....
then it booted but i got this message

The system has experienced boot failure because of overclocking or changes of voltages.
Last settings in Bios setup may not coincide with current h/w states

Current CPU speed: 3.4ghz
current BCLK: 100mhz
current memory speed 1333mhz

well i certainly havent overclocked it as it hasnt been on in my case yet. any ideas?

A friend of mine had this same issue - we went through all the checks and everything seemed to be working fine.

After unplugging and refitting all the components, we eventually got to that same screen with the overclocking warning (he had overclocked it).

We just set all settings back to default in the bios and the problem went away. He was then able to re-apply his overclocking profile and its been fine since.

It's a strange one!

At the moment it is all built up, my old psu in, nvidia gtx470 in, it took 4 attempts starting & stopping & then it booted. It is wired up as in the manual, I checked the website and its the same diagram for the switches so I know it is correct. Fingers crossed it will be OK now...
I will let you know if it isn't though lol

Again thanks for all your help & ideas

Well all worked well for 3 hours, windows updated restarted ok, yipeee I thought. Went to shut the PC down and it restarted everytime I tried to shut it down. Had to turn the psu power switch off to keep it from rebooting to windows (Win7 Home premium 64). Started it up 1 hour later & endless start stops again

You could try disconnecting the switches and shorting the pins on the motherboard to turn it on, if it works and does not keep restarting then it may well be the switches.

Totally fed up now, rebooting constantly before post. If it gets to post it freezes on bios screen. Ordered a new 850W XFX Pro, Modular, hopefully it will sort it, if not I think it must be the motherboard or the cpu
