Help me persuade my friends girlfriend not to get a macbook!

lol I went through about 20 different laptops for about two hours last night and she liked three one of which was a Vaio we found. Plays Sims 3 on high better than the macbook. Well she went out and bought a macbook.

good, if that is what she wanted then she will be happy. if price isn't an issue, then there are no reasons not to get a MBP.

I think a macbook, even one running windows, is likely to be a better buy than a vaio. The build quality will be better, it'll be similarly pretty, and it'll hold its value better. It's also one fewer laptop to find yourself playing unpaid tech support to if it's left with OSX.

£2k is rather excessive, but macbook - student discount makes as much sense as the competitors do.

The problem with that, is that you can for a business class laptop for that money with much higher build quality, testing and performance.

Why would anyone buy a Mac to run Windows. When you say it will be better build quality, you're not really comparing like for like - the Mac is like twice as expensive. People bleat on about Mac quality but realistically I've found them to be no better than other laptops of similar price (Latitudes/ Vaio Z / the Lenovo offering) which typically have a better hardware spec.

I have no problem with people who buy Mac's as their great machines and OSX is high quality but a good proportion of people would be better served going for a Windows based machine and even possibly save themselves money in the process.

For less than half of the price of the macbook the machine I am putting together will make it look like a pocket calculator, that runs hotter for some reason.
