INTEL CORE DU0 2 E6600 2.4
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3P
2GB Crucial Ballistix 6400
ATI 1900XT 512mb
Win XP
580W HiperTypeR

Current Drives are:

Maxtor IDE 7200rpm 250gb
Seagate SATA 5400rpm 80gb

Want to buy a new drive which will be good for gaming. I have no idea as to what RAID or hard drives in general. Please help.

"will be good for gaming" is a bit too vague to give any specific recommendations. Can you give us some idea of a budget, space requirements that sort of thing.

For £100 inc VAT & delivery you've basically got the pick of the stall of 500Gb 7200rpm drives. There is the Raptor option but you're looking at £110 or so delivered for 74Gb and I'm not personally convinced that they're worth the money.

Any of the above would be a good choice, the Hitachi lags behind a wee bit in the HDTach/HDTune benchmarks but tends to up its game in real world PCMark type tests. If you want to keep the costs down a bit then there are 320Gb versions of all those drives too for £25 or so less.

I would go for either the 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 or WD 500GB AAKS (both of which rpstewart has linked to), both very good HDDs. :)

Personally, Stick with the 500gb/750gb drives reccomended as above. There's not much difference between the larger drives and the raptors in terms of performance (unless you really want fast drives, in which case, I'd recommend 2x 36.7gb raptors in RAID 0)
