so ive got a perfect pc so far, 980ti sli i7 5820 and a x99 gigabyte gaming 5p

recently I purchased a evga 1300 watt psu with the evga red cable kit

so I dismantle my pc very carefully, removing all the cables and the old but fully working xfx850 watt psu

I then install the new 1300 watt psu and connect all the new cables, quite simple really, mobo and cpu power cable inserted, 1 gpu installed and just 2 hard drives.

the front panel connectors remain ass they are, that's from the cooler master cosmos s case front panel to the mobo.

now when I power up the pc nothing happens? all I get is the led glow on the case power switch.

I then double and triple check all the wires, no avail, I then remove the after market cables and try the normal power cables, no avail

I then remove the new 1300watt psu, re-connect the old psu and it still does not power on, all I get is a glow on the power switch....

so what have I missed here? I was very careful and did not damage any of the cables.

right now all ive got connected is the gpu and 1 ssd, so its very very hard to point out the problem.

can anyone point anything out to help me please?

ps

guys the mobo I have does not have a power on switch on the motherboard it self so I have to rely on the on switch on the case, but the case seems perfect...

gigabyte gaming 5p does not have a power switch on the mobo.... so lame

Have you checked the cpu socket for possible bent pins, ram installed in the correct slots for quad channel operation?

Confirm that all cables, including ones not removed/unplugged are plugged in properly. Could easily have knocked something & not noticed, etc

Does the mobo have any LEDs to indicate receiving power?

well it was a fully working pc, the cpu ect was already installed, all I did was disconnect and remove all the cables...

also the ram sticks were already in, ive just re-checked all the fron panel connectors and they are fine, now im staring at it and cannot spot anything that's wrong...

well I have disconnected all the drives apart from the ssd with windows

theres really nothing in the pc now, most components removed, all I have is 1 ssd 1 gpu and that's it, I tried 2 mobo cables no avail, double trope checked all the cables, seems fine

the worst thing is that this mobo does NOT have a power switch so I have to rely on the case on switch

, did I ruin the case switch? don't think so but I did play around with it as the power light switch, its connected to the mobo 24pin connector via a mobo adapter that came with the cosmos s case, its a yellow purple and blue wire, but it seems fully intact...

ok guys I seriously ****d up some where, a fully working pc, now its deado, well I just full connected the old psu and its as before, but now power no switch on?just a led glow on the power on switch via the case....

no beeps no led lights on the mobo no fans spinning.

2 issues causing the problem

either the mobo? highly unlikely as it was working 6 hours ago until I took it apart.

the case? its my closest bet? maybe the power on switch is ruined? and the mobo has no power switch which makes it very very hard to detect the issue

is there any way to power up the pc via the mobo? if so how as its got no ON switch...???

Disconnect the case switch from the mobo and try turning the board on by using a screw driver to touch the 2 power pins.

Yeah. I pulled the old front panel power connectors from old ATX cases to make life easier but you can do this.

It happens, I bought a new 280X a couple of years ago and for some reason either it killed my motherboard or fitting it was the exact time my mobo decided to die. It's incredibly annoying cause there's no easy way to test it thankfully I had a cheap one lying spare.

Good point, will try that when I get home from work, but my concern is the front panel connectors has a power on off switch, also the cooler master cosmos s case has another "power switch or a power led switch that controls the touch button sensor" I know that this must be connected to the 24pin mono connector via a adapter, because it's touch button it's got 2 switches.

Or do you think I have shorted the mobo? Is there a way to reset the mobo ?

Also it does not have a reset cmos button, it's got 2 pins instead(manual info)

I 100% know it's not the psu, as I have 2, a new one and a old one that was working yesterday

The thing is I get a led glow on the case power switch, so that indicates it's the mobo?

Have you tried resetting CMOS?

Does not have a cmos switch but I ha located 2 pins that shows cmos on it, do I touch the pins while the psu is disconnected?

Does anyone know how to reset a motherboard if it's been shorted? Or is come the only way to do it ?

Unplug the lead from the PSU or turn the PSU power switch to OFF. Hold the power button for about 10 secs to discharge the power and then put a jumper on the 2 pins to reset the CMOS. This is the way to reset the motherboard by resetting the BIOS/CMOS.

Do you not have the manual for your motherboard?
It should explain how to clear the cmos. I haven't had to do it in years but the last time I did it I just moved a jumper or removed the cmos battery.

You can also unplug and remove the battery for a few minutes. Shorting pins should do it though.

Then restart, all bios settings will be at default and you will have to start from there unless you have a saved profile in the bios.

good luck, andy

so I removed the battery and replaced it in after 39seconds, started the pc and bamm, it worked!!

thank you for that battery removal tip NKATA !

so ive done everything now, mobo lights up, single beep for no errors, fans spinning installed, but I boot up all I get is a black screen.

I know resetting the cmos and removing battery reset the mobo, but when I put in the ssd I connected it on exactly the same spot same sata connection, actually with all the hard drives was connected to the usual spot so I would not have to RE-INSTALL windows.

So what do I do now, how to get rid of the black screen, I went to boot screen and requested to boot off the ssd, no avail

do I have to do anything on bios?

got a feeling its not booting up from the ssd
