hey guys im a noob to building pcs and have just finished putting mine together, every thing seems to power up as all the fans are spining, but i get no signal to the moniter :( where have i gone wrong.

the specs are

asus a8nsli deluxe
amd 3700+
pny ddr400 1gb
samsung spinpoint 160gb hdd
nvidia 7600gs

i think thats all.

Is the monitor definitely ok? Have you tried another monitor? Does the graphics card require an additional power connector that you may have forgotten to connect? Additionally have you tried the graphics card in the other PCI-E slot?

Sorry for all the questions but they may help narrow down the problem.

ive tried 2 moniters, 1 crt an 1 dell tft which i know definatly works.

il try the second slot for pci does it matter which it should be in ? its in the top one at the moment, there isnt any power conections on the card and the fan does spin

That gfx card is a PCI E

If you have onboard gfx try plugging your monitor into that to see if you can get to the post screen..

I am thinking its a borked gfx card , can you get hold of another to see if that card works in ya system?

Have you tried clearing cmos aswell?

i cant get to another card as the secong pc is agp. i dont think the a8n-sli has on board gfx or i just cant see it. how do i clear cmos ? ive never done this before :o

Make sure you've connected the 4-pin power socket onto the Motherboard as well as the 24-pin one. The Socket for it is in the top-right corner, behind the Serial port from photo's I'm looking at. I had the same problem as you until I did that.

If you have 2g ram or 2 x 512mb sticks try booting with 1 stick only...it does matter on DFI boards but not sure with ASUS....if you wanted to run your memory in dual channel then yes it would make a diff...

its a long shot but worth a try...

1. put cmos jumper to clear
2. remove mobo battery
3. wait 10 secs
4. switch cmos jumper back to default
5. insert mobo battery back into board..

A cold boot is poss, or perhaps theres a "short" somewhere, in which case I would suggest taking everything out of the case and try booting with 1 stick of RAM, mobo , CPU, gfx card only....with it all out of the case..

If that fails then I would purchase a cheap 5 - 8 pci gfx card from a well know auction site to confirm its the gpu before sending it back...You dont have to do this I mean if the above recommendations dont work its pretty much gfx card error...

Good luck mate

Yes it does, some boards require you to put a single memory stick in a specific slot, you might wanna check that in the manual.

I read the manual and it says that when using a single stick, use slot B1, which is the one next to the one on the furthest edge of the board (or third along from the CPU).

cheers mate, i tried that an still nothing :(

ive tried both pcie slots aswell. the psu is a 350atx one should that be powerfull enough for it ?

I personally wouldn't put that PSU in that system. What brand is it? If it's cheap and only 350 watt try a higher quality and more powerful PSU.

You could try reseating the CPU. I have a dodgy CPU slot and had to reseat mine a few times before it booted properly. It done the same as you've described.

Certain it isn't a short-circuit? If you have the time, try reassembling the components outside the case. I would personally do this after doing what I've suggested above though.

Do you get any bleeping noises when you attempt to boot-up?

no bleeps no, there is a load of leads for the cases front display but i have only conected the power and reset ones, when i fitted the cpu i did find it realy hard to put the fan/heatsink on could that be my prob ?

i conected that but i didnt notice any beeps. but being the defeatist i am lol i have given it to a mate that works on pcs to see if he can get it going, il post up when it works .

cheers any ways guys
