I have an issue that has me baffled and I don't know what the hell is wrong.

Speedtest:

This is normal. I have no issue with what the speedtest is coming back with.

Pingtest:

UK SERVER:

GERMAN SERVER:

Why am I pinging good to a German server, but awful to a UK one? This also translates to when I'm gaming on UK-based servers (where I'm noticing the problem):

More evidence of this crap:

(I don't even know the guy on the other team, but he's got the same problem? What is going on with BT?

Help is appreciated.

I don't know, but it does appear to be BT at fault. I have seen reports of BT having some really weird routing in place.

Testing against Coventry with a PlusNet FTTC connection I get:

Frankfurt for comparison:

What do you get if you Speedtest against the same server you're Pingtesting against?

I doubt you will be able to solve it directly. First line phone support certainly isn't going to help you, even if they do understand the problem.

A change of ISP is probably the most effective option if you aren't still in contract.

BT recently had a go at "fixing" some long standing routing issues so maybe its an unfortunate side effect of that :S

Traceroutes for the server IP your playing on and to something like bbc.net.uk might help to identify the problem.

I can't change ISP, in a contract. I recently moved, so its a new line into the house. It was fine in the previous house a month ago. Must be some new settings on this new line?

I'm also with BT, pinging fine to that server.

It's a fair distance from me

Trace complete.

See how your tracert differs to mine.

EDIT: I should have checked what IP it was connecting to for the pingtest as it might not be the same server as warwicknet.com even though they host the coventry server.

Decided to test it in late afternoon, that's perfect. Perhaps it's an evening thing? Going to do the same test tonight to see if it's still the same.

Okay, so it seems to be an evening thing. Any idea why it's bad in the evening and fine throughout the day? I don't live in a particularly big city and the small green BT box is literally across the road from me.
