Brand new wifi card in PC. Brand new Sky router. 2x brand new Eeros APs, one plugged straight in to the router in bridge mode.

Connections, all over wifi:

1x PS5
1x Chromecast
1x Fire Stick
1x Smart Telly
2x Phones
3x Laptops

No wired connections.

The internet works perfectly fine 95% of the time, decent ping, decent load times, but every now and then it has an absolute meltdown and my ping in COD goes up to 5 seconds and my packet loss has gone as high as 7%. This goes on for a few minutes, then goes back to normal.

This also happens with all the other devices on the network.

Questions:

  • Is there a good, long term internet monitoring service I can use to keep an eye on things for a prolonged period of time?
  • 2x Eeros installed, one is in bridge mode. Not sure what this means, just did what the Eeros process told me to do. Would turning this off help?
  • Would replacing the Sky router likely help (the wifi is turned off via the admin control panel so it shouldn't be interfering with the Eeros)?
  • Any other suggestions?

This is honestly doing my head in. During games it's irritating enough when it happens but when I'm trying to fill in forms for work and I lose connection for a few minutes I want to throw my PC out the window.

Help pls before I start losing it!

What speed is your internet connection?

I've had this problem recently and I narrowed it down to a mix of the internet connection speed and the wireless router.

I couldn't have more than 1 wireless device unless it was used for web surfing only. If I remoted in and played Spotify in the background on the same.device I'd have constant drip outs and slow slow speed where I would type and then watch the key strokes on the remote machine for seconds after.

I couldn't watch the TV which is hard wired and work on the wireless at the same time, I couldn't have more than 1 wired device working at the same time either.

My connection speed was 35mb/s, since I've gone full fibre it's been spot on can have all devices doing all the work at the same time

Has any Windows device (non 11) got IP Helper service active?

No idea, not even sure how to find this out!

What speed is your internet connection?
70mbps

I had pretty much the same speed at my last property and had none of these issues, the devices are all the same, but I've got a new ISP, new router, new APs. It's got to be something on the network side :/

In Windows, type in Services and then scroll down, see if there's IP Helper listed and if it's active. If so, try disabling it for that device if it is not Windows 11. Repeat for any other non Win 11 device. As there was an instance of it (IP Helper) basically periodically spamming the network and congesting it and then lagging everyone out on the internal network. It might not be the culprit, but would be good to check just in case.

Does the router network connection to the isp ever get lost?

This was another issue I had and turned out to be a faulty master socket, but could also be an intermittent fault on the line.

I did, and followed all the steps.

Not sure if I should just bited the bullet and replace the router tbh.

Looks a little complicated with Sky setup, I’m with VM and it’s quite a simple setup with my eero pro 6s, just a case of isp router into modem mode.

There is an unofficial eero page on Reddit, that you might get some more help from other Sky and Eero user’s as well. Always worth a try.

Sorry can’t be of much help, I know it can be annoying when it’s hard to pin point the issue of these things.

When you say bridge mode, is it the Eero that's handling the local IPs for all devices? Is there an option for both Eeros to be in access point mode to allow the Sky hub to act as the main router?

Is it possible to test with just the Sky WiFi without the Eero? Just to rule them out?

Worth setting up a thinkbroadband BQM. which should help determine if it’s an internal issue or external issue to some extent.

Not a clue tbh, will give the Sky router a go on it's own and see what happens :)
