Well, the time of year is here.
Rig change time.

Got a raise and boss wants me to do more (as expected). So to do more i need a more of the rig (hehe, i'm bad).

I need to source this for a price (and seller):

iP C2Q (not C2D, but i'm open for discussion)
4gb ram
10k rpm hdd (we have file server, so capacity is of no essence here as long as its over 100gb. or a raid of 2 stripped 7200 ?)
GeForece 8800 768mb, bestest there is, its not gonna be used in games, but alternative for opengl is way, way pricier than this (way over 1k).
simple DVD rewriter (no bd or hd-dvd rubbish)
kbd+rodent (wired+optic, no fancy stuff)
19" (proper 4:3, preferably LG1917s) lcd monitor

And no big branded crap. Meaning HP, IBM, DELL and the likes get the Language! out of me.

I'm doing this at the moment, but any help appreciated. Need to get a single seller to give me best price for this. If i'd be doing this for myself, i'd assemble best priced parts separately, but i just dont have luxury of the time to mess around...

Machine is gonna be used for heavy CAD (ArchiCAD) and previz rendering (Artlantis and MAX)

No-one on the forums can recommend other retailers to you, whether they be for parts or selling full systems as they will be viewed as competitors.

If you want a quad-core compatible motherboard, there are quite a few. An Asus P5N-E 650 SLi is one at a reasonable price.

If you are building yourself, I'm sure someone could specify you something suitable. Do you have a budget in mind here?

Looks like work is paying . . Id get quad too . . .

I think most of the c2d mobos support quad. i believe its just the same FSB

a 8800gtx seems like overkill for a 19inch monitor
but for CAD work etc, processor is key, but you're best bet is to save the money and stick with dual core, the programs hardly take the advantage of multi core processors at the moment anyway, and the use in 4gb is ram is minimal if any, I'd recommend sticking with 2, should be pleanty

Yep, work is paying...

3dsmax8 halves the rendering time with quad. Not a lot of software does, but the software i use does. Rig is not intended for games, and even if it would be games still suck at multi-coring...

8800 is for high poly archicad and max, and industrial alternatives of adequate opengl performance are waaaaaay too expensive. Bestest 8800 (gtx) is at least 3 times cheaper... 19" is plenty. Plus if i really really want a biiiiiig monitor, i can always hook up my 42" telly with 1:1 pixel mapping as my primary monitor (now its there as a secondary - dumping ground for toolbars'n'stuff).

Now i'm looking into a C2Q of 4x2.4ghz, 4 gigs of memory and a motherboard that can run all that. I havent followed mobo and cpu market for a while so only thing i know is that AMD is out of the game of quad for now. And as for intel, i havent been in that camp for a while too. So, any suggestion of non-sli, non-fancy mobo is appreciated.

As for competition, i only shop at two places, one of them is overclockers. So, i think i'm entitled of a bit of comparison (price wise, models) without naming names.

Thanks
