Help me stop the obscenities.

Ah yes, I forgot just for a moment that Trinity benefits from faster RAM. :p

Tiredness :D

Good Trinity spec Idleman. I would personally spend the extra £6 and get the 1TB Toshiba 7K1000.D though, simply because of the warranty and because it is a faster drive, so it might help in the absence of an SSD.

I'm liking Bacons spec for that price though, but as Idleman said, it's only any good if the board has a bios revision that allows it to take Ivybridge chips.

I don't feel like we are being particularly helpful as a collective. We are all chucking tonnes of different ideas out there and expecting the OP to pick one. We can't seem to agree among ourselves...

I think really, the only two that deserve serious consideration are Bacons i3 + 7850 option (if the board takes IB chips, I'll try and find this out in a mo) and Idlemans Trinity option (though personally I would add the Toshiba drive for the aforementioned reasons, and put it in an M-ATX case.)

Thoughts anyone?

It depends how seriously he takes it. I personally only play LoL to pass the time occasionally :p

I must tell my brother he's wasting his time while he games on his Ivy i3 and 7870 given by this thread.

I'd probably go Idlemans build, but with an FX6300 personally.

Well Acme and Idleman. The motherboard I specc'd is compatible with Ivy CPU's using BIOS F12.

Every socket 1155 is fully capable of taking every single 1155 chip, including the Xeons, just to back you up.

League of Legends.. worst gaming community in the world every other game you get a troll or kids screaming and swearing. Saying that I do play it all the time but only with friends ;).

With that budget I would recommend a Trinity build, my friend got a fairly cheap £350-£400 pc and a 1440x900 monitor and runs the game on high at 60fps. If your son is in uni or knows anyone in uni you could get a free copy of Windows 7 or 8 providing their uni has the dreamspark premium program.

It's not the game that drives him to despair, it's the PC. He only plays with friends and when the PC is doing more mundane tasks the house is very quiet, ;)

Unfortunately I have a few years left before I can wave him goodbye to uni. :(

Only if the BIOS supports it. Theres no point buying an older motherboard with an Ivybridge CPU if you have no Sandybridge CPU to use when updating the BIOS now is there?

It is a fair amount more expensive than a regular M-ATX trinity build though when you factor in the OS.

I still think that Bacon?s spec is the best one here for around the £500 - £550 mark, and Idlemans Trinity build is the best one here for around the £400 - £450 mark.

And in the orangey, black and pink corner with the Prodigy is Acme slugging it out against his partners including the Ghost ;)
