Help me talk my folks out of going with TalkTalk.

Talk Talk lied to us when we signed up and said we could get LLU broadband, Our area wasn't even enabled for LLU at the time.

They then took about 2 months to actually get the ADSL up and running. We initially left it until the date they gave us on the letter they sent but no dice. Rang them and they had no clue what was going on. Took another month or so and many calls to get us connected.

They also started charging us +£15 a month for the ADSL as it was non-LLU. This was a direct result of selling us the wrong package (i.e. one we couldn't go on). Our phone package was also incorrect as a result and we were being charged for calls we shouldn't have been.

In the end we were given numerous promises which were rarely kept, and lots of credits for £15 a go.

A few months later LLU did become available in our area and we switched to that. Touch wood we haven't really needed to call them about anything recently. So as long as you don't need to actually deal with them they seem OK...

ADSL disconnects on occasion but a router restart normally fixes that. Not really had any extended downtime periods so there is that much going for them.

Im with TalkTalk and have never had any problems. In fact the last two days when I called customer service to cancel paper bills, caller ID & voicemail I got excellent service.

Sure their connections speeds arent exactly blazing but its good and if you do the speedtest on the website and its slow they will send an engineer to see if you can get a faster connection - at no charge.

I don't mean to sound like a commercial for this company just stating that Ive no problems with them.

Been with TT for over a year now, very stable only problem is the poor speed

Go here and do the speed test. After the test you will get a link to request an engineer to come to your house for free to see if they can speed it up. You will need to log in using your details.

I think I'm technically with TalkTalk via Tiscali (I was originally with Nildram who were bought out by Pipex etc etc etc who ended up being Tiscali). Speeds have got terrible over the past few weeks, really must change :/.

It's definitely not my line, as far as I know, and my exchange is very small:

Code:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed	8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation	4.0 db 3.5 db
Noise Margin 10.6 db 23.0 db

I can't fault sky at all, brilliant connection. Never down and always max speed.

I'm on 16mb but I get 20mb. Granted you have to call and get a rep to uncap your line as they do cap it even though they say they don't.

Mines not bad at them moment, usually quite a bit faster off peak.

Please bare in mind i live in deepest darkest Lincs.

Upload is still crap though.

I have had my fair share of issues with my phone line since moving to talktalk and to be fair to them they have been trying to/still trying to sort it for over a year now. I have had nothing but good service from them regarding this and had no other issues.

But then saying that, I am not sure if the issue with my phone line is to do with something they did as I never had it before. It is to the point that they can see there is something wrong with the line but when there are tests done from either end it shows it is all good 9 out of 10 times, but when it fails it bring up loads of errors that they cannot trace.

I'm with TalkTalk for broadband and i've had next to no bad experiences with them. Their forum support is also awesome. I've yet to have a 'horrible' or 'bad' experience.

Although the only reason im not upgrading to their fibre connection is due to only a 2mb upload.

If im to switch to a fibre connection i'll probably switch over to BT.
