We trying to play stuff like Guns & Roses, Foo Fighters & Fall Out Boy

Seriously how can you like those 3 bands? I can understand them seperately but that's just like Marmite and Ice Cream.

wow, you must have a really boring life listening to one type of music. that's hardly an eclectic mix of bands he's listed there.

Agreed - I would also chuck them in the same pot.

The only problem is that the OP will probably be kicked out on his arse if he doesn't play bass and it might be a while until he finds 3 more mates to start a band with.
Listen to your grandad -
Buy a cheap bass and the easiest method is just play the root note of the chord that the band plays - think AC/DC or Ramones. You can then start to add runs later.
I wouldn't advise you to play a bass through a guitar amp and speaker though.
Carry on practising guitar and maybe you can bring something to the band later with your guitar skills. Young bands never stay together (old ones don't either) and one of them will eventually get fed up and you can take over.
Its all about experience at your age.
On thursday I went to see My Fair Lady and the 17 yr old drummer in the orchestra had tried out for my rock band last year. He saw me and dropped his head in embarassment. I saw him later on and told him to experience everything thats thrown at him at that way you'll be able to do anything.
Go for it.

Oh dear, I thought I'd get a few of "Those" replies. Yeah I know, they're all the same genre, but it's like liking Busted and Radiohead. I have a very wide musical taste tyvm and no my life isn't very boring :p
