Hi!

So i am on vodafone on a galaxy s6, dont know if thats anything to do with what happens.

What i find is if im using mobile data (3g/4g) and the signal drops off while im loading a page or something (changes from 4g to H for example) i find my phone then wont send or recieve text messages, or let calls come in and out even though my phone signal itself reads 2 bars, and its always 2 bars when this happens!

If i have one bar i get full 4g data, but as soon as it gots to H and up to 2 bars everything seems to become blocked and its getting soo annoying lol

Anyone make any sense of this, hope im explaining it well enough its hard to put in to writing!

Just to clear up what you're experiencing, you're saying:

on 4G/LTE you're getting a consistent data throughput and if someone calls you then the call works.
on 3G/UMTS only when you're using data you are getting call / SMS blocking and are unable to send outgoing calls either?

Nope once the signal is dropped down a level i cant send or recieve anything, messages just fail to send.

Ive just dealt with it for ages but we now have a newborn and while im at work my partner was unable to get hold of me the other day for her it just goes straight to my answer phone

I know your pain I get awful reception on Vodafone @ home even tho so called coverage checker shows good 4g indoor

I get 1-2 bars if phone is in front window of house and I'm not even talking 3/4g or H its 2g I have had to enable sms receipt so I know they have been sent @ home...I can even see the bloody vodafone mast :(

My advice is to try a few payasyougo sims and do some testing for best reception

From my little research whilst I was testing networks.

EE - Fastest internet and best connection in town/city's, I was loosing signal whilst travelling on the dual carriageway and motorway quite often.

3 - Best overall network IMHO, I get average of 6-7mb/s on speed test and that's enough even for youtube.

How do you reset it to make it work again? Reboot or does it only work again if you go back to 4G?
If you disable the 4G on your device can you make calls? Are you able to make HD calls?

Ignore the bars, they mean almost nothing. You need a tiddly amount of signal for a call / text, you're having problems with either your 2G or 3G interface doing a call setup so it's likely a handset / cell site issue if you won't drop-down to the right interface to make a call.

Have you contacted Vodafone about this at all and given them a chance to help / fix it?

Na once this happens i cant do anything. I have found putting the phone in flight mode for a minute or so and turning it back off in a certain area at work gets the signal back. I then need my gf to send another text to me and suddenly any missed ones come through
