There may be a very simple explanation for this but I just cant seem to find a reason why. I will try and explain.

I have 5 hard drives connected to my pc. a 640GB "boot" drive and 4 1TB drives.

Now I have the 640GB connected to SATA1 port on the motherboard, the 4 1TB drives connected to ports 2 - 5. DVDRW is connected to port 6.

Now my thinking is that surely in Disk Management the 640GB drive should be Disk 0? Mine shows as Disk 2. I just cant understand it. I thought it was showing like that because thats how the disks were when windows was installed, but after booting into a Win7 OS install (from DVD, or USB flash drive as is my case) and getting to the disk management screen, the drive still shows as Disk 2.

Its not all that important I guess, I just want to try and understand why this is. Thanks in advance!

Definately plugged into port 1 on the mobo, the drives are picked up exactly how they should be (in the order I want them in) in the bios. Im a little OCD with certain things, and its just more my curiosity as to why they show the way they do in disk management.

If the bios assigns disk numbers on boot then is there a way to make sure it detects sata1 first etc?
