I'm looking to upgrade my rig originally from 2007, but with a few additions along the way ...

- Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
- Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
- OcUK GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB GDDR3
- Kingston HyperX 3K SSD 240GB
- XFX 650W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
- Samsung SH-S203BEBN 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter
- Lian-Li PC-7B PLUS II
- Belkin F5D7001UK 125Mbps Wireless Desktop PCI Network Adapter
- Windows 8.1 Pro

I've also got plenty of other storage in the form of mech drives and a NAS.

I don't game anymore, PC is now used primarily for work which includes running multiple VMs all day. So I want to bump the RAM up to 16GB.

So I'm thinking to go for an i7 4770K (oc'd), new motherboard and 16GB RAM, and keeping everything else as is.

Does that sound reasonable?

What about the RAM, should I just add 8GB to what I have or get a new 16GB?

I use 2 24inch monitors, should I keep the 8800 or ditch it and just use onboard graphics?

Budget is around £4-500.

All thoughts much appreciated.
Cheers,
Matt

The 4770k sounds good and should be adequate for two monitors. Definitely buy new RAM if you want to use integrated graphics, 16GB @ 2400Mhz would do you nicely. Maybe get a better CPU cooler, Intel's stock ones haven't been great lately.
