Hi all

I haven't built/had a a PC since my days of a (and still using) Nvidia 6800 Ultra and P4 3.2, which I have decided I cannot tolerate any longer.

The PC will be used for games, photography and slight rendering use.

I have been keeping up to date with the graphics cards and don't know wetehr it is worth holding out to the 980ti which some newsfeeds seem to suggest will be out soon.

I don't need the OS. I have a Iyyuma Prolite B24009HDS monitor, if that would do I don't need a monitor, if I have been living in a past generation then please add a monitor ontp the budget.

Cheers all!

2k is a lot of money and can be spent on peripherals and monitors just as much as PC components.

Examples are multi monitor flight/racing rigs with Warthogs and steering wheels.

Anything you buy nowadays will deal with photography as long as it has an SSD for working projects.

The 980ti doesn't exist right now and might never exist...something will though.

I bought my platform and got it working with the non gaming software I use. Once I'd ironed out any problems I got my GPU.

Maybe spend £1500 max, use the IGP of the Intel chip I assume you will buy and wait as long as you can for the next gen GPUs?

If you crumble, you crumble.

Thanks :)

Maybe a daft question (as I am coming from a very old PC), but are sound cards still required? Or has Mobo onboard technology moved on?

Just to expand on the sound chips onboard.

Some boards such as the Z97 Sniper or Gigabyte X99-Gaming 5/Gaming 7 have Creative Core3D and fancy audiophile grade capacitors and op-amps. These are a step up from the usual Realtek stuff you find on a lot of boards.

And! yes your speakers seem to be hideous, not even a sub woofer.

Haha! Would you mind recommending some ;) Seem to be building my basket so far around your picks

It should fit fine.

A quick google shows an H100i fitting in it so the coolermaster certainly will.

But!! there are loads of white cases to pick from,

Probably the 4790K as you say slight rendering use.

The core speed advantage it has will be good for games etc

I second Stulids choice of the 4790k.

As for rendering, have you checked(/do you know) if you're rendering program supports GPU rendering, if so (with the GPU you will be getting) you'll get much quicker render times. :) (Though it doesn't ultilise SLI currently).

As stulids above specs too, make sure you have 16GB RAM, Rendering can be RAM hungry.

Thanks!

I have looked at the deal with the free mobo upgrade and saw that this is the graohics card support

1*PCI-E 3.0 x16+
1*PCI-E 3.0 x8+1*PCI-E x4

Would this definitely support 2 x 970 or 2 x 980?

Also is it worth paying a bit extra (in a non bundle) for the 5h as apposed to the 3h?
