E60 525d is a contender, but I'm concerned about the chain snapping without warning.Or a 5 series am I right?
Considering the amount of miles mjt will be doing it seems daft to get a petrol imo. Lets face it if you are sat doing 70 mph on a motorway for 2 hours does it really matter if it is petrol or diesel?
I'm not sitting at 70 for 2 hours. I'm sitting at 100+ for 8 on my cross-continental trips. Petrols mean 22MPG. Diesels mean 35 MPG+
Current commute gives 28MPG in my S3, so if I can get nearer 40 during the week I'm happy.
Diesel A6 is fine, but I can get a newer Pashat for the money.
