Help me with a spec me

I found the superb better than the Passat and I had a similar budget and requirement to yourself :) great cars and like you, I love my hot hatches. Get an elegance, heated leather bi xenons rns510 sat etc etc :)
Thanks!
Or a 5 series am I right?

Considering the amount of miles mjt will be doing it seems daft to get a petrol imo. Lets face it if you are sat doing 70 mph on a motorway for 2 hours does it really matter if it is petrol or diesel?
E60 525d is a contender, but I'm concerned about the chain snapping without warning.

I'm not sitting at 70 for 2 hours. I'm sitting at 100+ for 8 on my cross-continental trips. Petrols mean 22MPG. Diesels mean 35 MPG+
Current commute gives 28MPG in my S3, so if I can get nearer 40 during the week I'm happy.

Diesel A6 is fine, but I can get a newer Pashat for the money.

I'm sure you would get more than 35mpg out of the diesel. Even at 100.

Why would the chain snap on a 525 E60?
Do these not have the same issues as the E9x??

-edit
For some reason I thought the M57 had similar chain-snapping issues as the N47.

#winning!

I didn't. Low 30s at 100.

And that's with the newer more efficient engine and 8 speed box.

Hmm I wonder what my 2.0tdi would get in comparison. Sitting at 100 would be 3k rpm in 6th gear I think.

It's not only about revs - think about the energy required to push your car through the air at that speed.
F10 525d xDrive: 32MPG nailing it though morning traffic DK - Düsseldorf.

So you still managed to drive 80+mph in 'traffic'. Couldn't of been that bad traffic. :p

EDIT: changed my mind. Find a nice Jaguar XJ sport premium with the twin turbo diesel engine. :D

So, so few about. And pushing €20k. And not an estate. And rather long for on-street parking.

I think it'll be a toss-up between a 325d and a 525d if I can justify the top end of the budget. Plenty around with mega-spec, just need to wait until the right one pops up.
Going to look at a moon mileage '07 A6 3.0 TDI and an '09 525d tomorrow so we'll see...

C6 A6 2.0 TDI 170PS

Been reading some horror stories about DMFs, oil pumps and injectors.
How common are these issues?

I'll contact the Audi dealer before I purchase to check service history and recalls.
Other than water leaking all over the MMI from the rear wash, what else is there to look out for on these?
