I was watching TV last night and saw an advert for a 50 inch full HD LCD tv. It was reduced from £700 to £370 which is bloody ridiculous (maybe I was dreaming). I want one now but cant for the life of me remember the company selling them. I have checked Dixon, Argos and Best buy but no luck.

P.S it was either Song or Samsung

Seriously doubt it was an lcd tv though, more likely to be a plasma. You can buy loads of 50" plasmas for £400 to £600. A 50" lcd Samsung or Sony would be well over £1000 before discount so it is indeed one of those for £370 I want to know where now!

But anyway I digress, it was indeed a Samsung lcd reduced from £699.99 to £379.00 but it's only a 40" screen ;)

I won't name the shop but the model is SAMSUNG LE40C530 40" Full HD LCD TV

Should help you find it.

A friend of mine just gave his one of these TVs to his parents. Said it had terrible ghosting. Still at that price it'd be worth a punt as a second TV.

As far as I'm aware, I wouldn't be using the C530 for gaming, though - despite the good price.

Why? It seems ideal. Here's a bit from a review:

In our input lag and subjective gaming tests, the Samsung LE40C530 performed unbelievably well, lagging by only 14ms! Needless to say, this figure makes input lag completely irrelevant on this LCD TV, making it one of the best we’ve ever seen for fast, fluid gaming enjoyment.

In the past, we have attributed the large input lag typically seen on SPVA LCD TVs to response time compensation processing. The fact that this SPVA LCD TV has achieved responsiveness on par with (and marginally better than some) Plasma displays challenges this theory and suggests that other unwanted video processing may be to blame. Just for comparison, the best input lag figure we could squeeze out of the recently reviewed Samsung LE40C750 was 41ms, which made games requiring fast reflexes much less enjoyable. We’d love for manufacturers to begin commenting on the issue of input lag, because it is a serious problem on many HDTVs – but fortunately, not this one.

One other thing to note that is that the input lag here is this low even when “Game Mode” is not enabled. In fact, on the Samsung LE40C530, the “Game Mode” switch is in fact nothing more than a marketing feature. On most Samsung TVs, selecting “Game Mode” temporarily blacks the screen out as it adjusts to an alternate driving mode, but here it does nothing except for applying a separate custom picture mode with heightened colour temperature and colour brightness. We left if off and just used our calibrated “Movie” mode for playing games (the 14ms measurement was in fact taken in this mode).

This excellent state of affairs means that the Samsung LE40C530 is sure to be a hit with gamers looking for a smaller screen

There's far better discussion of it over on AVForums. While input lag isn't particularly bad, some have posted images of what it took to get rid of it. The "game mode" option isn't anything as non-existent as that review makes out - it looks pretty shocking in comparison.

Mind you, it's still a better set for gaming than the C650 (or C750 as well, I believe).

I've researched the hell out of this for the past few months as these Samsungs were next on my list for a 46-50" replacement for the living room. The more I read, though, the less happy I was with everything. I really hate the mental juggling act you have to go through when choosing a new unit.

As such, I still haven't chosen and remain with an old Toshiba 32WLT66 which is just too small for my room (but still a cracking LCD).

Everything just ends up boiling back down to the Panasonic G20, but I can't afford that at an appropriate size just yet.
