Help me write somethin

Ok, I'm writing an article that I want published in the student newspaper, I've already been assured that it will be considered with a high chance of it gettin put in (they take all sorts).

I want to discuss University policy and other things, such as teaching methods, the devaluation of degrees and things. I would like your opinions on these matters for one, but anyone with an extremely helpful bone in their body could help me further by helping me find some statistics. I've already found some stats and I want to use these to build some ratios and things, I have the number of university entrants in 2007 to the number of people who fit the age bracket in Britain (works out to 1 in 8).

With all these facts I want to back up the rising difference between the younger generations, i.e. the ones that go to uni to gain respectable degrees and the ones who go and hang about on street corners throwin bricks at grannys for friday night entertainment. Put this in relation to university life, i.e. how education standards are dropping to accommodate this other kind of people and how this devalues respectable degrees. After all, its us who are gonna be in charge in 20 years.

If anyone can help me find facts such as university entrants in 1950 as well as other things such as school leavers compared to things like those entering further education would be an immense help.

Anyway, I know this is rambling and nonsensical but I think if I do not have a point, I at least have a topic worthy of discussion, so, discuss.

Cheers

On a serious note, you are a student? Can you not ask for student records at your own university for some pointers?

A census of Uni's would be essentially what you're looking for right?

I find the irony of you writing about Educational Standards, for a University, when you are at University and you cannot spell something, getting, going to, throwing, overwhelming. Congratulations.

To be fair english isn't the only subject taught at university....

No, it is taught throughout Primary and Secondary Education in the UK, if you read what he is asking in his post, you'll surely see the irony.

get a life tbh :o

its the grammar trolls-I-mean-police.

you might not be successful getting information from your universities registry office as it is kind of breaking data protection laws, although maybe an all round general statistic can be provided. once you know how to get this information from one university its pretty much rinse and repeat.

Sorry, what? What sort of University do you go to? Ive never seen/heard of student behaviour such as the above. Do students a favour, dont post rubbish like the quote ive picked up on.

For a start, this isn't the article I'm goin to be submittin, and I always leave the g's off the ends of words, just for ease's sake, except when I'm writin somethin where the grammar counts, I didnt count a public forum as one of those places, soz.

I'm not talkin about students at universities, I apologise if that wasn't clear, I was referring to the difference between people of student age, i.e. the ones at uni and the ones who are on the dole and go throwin bricks at grannys. It wasn't a statement of fact, it was a summation of the attitude of the people you find in groups on street corners in hoodies holdin bottles of cider.

I thought that too but I'm more lookin for general statistics relatin to a UK wide demographic.

right, you know anywhere?

Thanks for your help guys, I appreciate the helpful input, I thought there would be some trouble makers who just post to watch a thread spiral into petty arguments about somethin completely unrelated to the topic, such as the spelling but believe me, its the constructive comments from people like you 2 I was aiming for. Thanks again.

It makes you sound like a chav, I can say that.

I dont see why people bother postin things like that, its just annoyin, it isnt relevant or even witty or anythin. Someone posts a topic, asks people to discuss something that probably concerns a fair proportion of the people on here and all people do is come and pick stupid little holes in things until the whole thread descends into meaningless bickering and the thread gets closed.

Anyone can go and just make stupid little remarks to wind someone up, well done. Why dont you engage in somethin other than "who has got the best grammar" and how many posts you've got.

Welcome to the internet ;)

does anyone have anythin relevant to what I'm askin? When I was tellin people how to make money in their spare time, there was no "you're spelling betting wrong" then.

Can I have this moved to Speaker's Corner please? I might get some intelligent input then, you can delete all the posts except the first and 2 relevant ones if you want.

really? what are you 12?

anksta there isn't really a place where you can get a general concensus, those are done by private firms, you'll have to phone a variety of universities yourself and generalise the figures.

besides - its best for you to do your own research than get second hand as results can be dated, universities populations can fluctuate depending on certain variables etc etc.

really? I didnt think the information was that private or whatever, i thoguht it would be like findin out populations or somethin. I agree with you about doin my own research though, and I am, just if I can get help or anythin from somewhere it would make it a bit easier.

Thanks for your help mate.

try student loans company - most students take out a loan, they can provide you all the details you need on areas etc, dont think they can tell about dropouts/leavers though.

maybe local education authorities in different areas.
