Help! Motherboard screw and standoff wont come apart.

Just bog standard electrical tape to tape the paper down?

Yep and put extra layer around the screw to help protect that area.

Another option
If none of the easier methods work
Rather than risk drill or dremel near the motherboard
How about drill out the thread on the motherboard tray
The one that standoff goes into
Then it will still work as a standoff just won't screw in
But will still sit at the right height

Crisis averted! I bought a precision screwdriver set and it had the right sized flat head bit to grab the mangled screw head so no drilling required which is a relief.
