OK, moving to the USA for around 6months, by current PC is like 2/3years old built by myself after taking advice from you guys.

It has worked amazingly well all these years, and i've never had a problem with it, but it is old.

Basic spec is:

GForce 6800 GT Glacier (256MB)
Athlon 64 3500+ Winchester 90nm(Socket 939)
3GB GeIL PC3200 Value Dual Channel (2x512MB) + (1x2GB)
Onboard Sound (Dont care about sound quality)
120GB IDE HD (Maxtor I think)
Antec NeoPower PSU 480

I also have a nice Antec case which I paid like £100, but sadly that wont fit in my suitcase, so I need to know what parts I can use when I build a new PC.

I havent really looked at PC components for a long time, but I assume I can use the powersupply in the USA, it says on the manual:

'Universal input automatically accepts line voltages from 100V to 240V AC'

Does this mean I can just get a powercable in the USA and the PSU will work? Oh and the PSU has a PCI-E cable thing :)

So I guess im looking for a new mobo,CPU,Graphics Card and Memory. I'll pick up a case also but it wont be fancy.

I'd like a new HD, but would also like to access some data on my old drive which is just a Maxtor IDE, can you do that?

Budget wise, not sure really, I have a 19" LCD monitor which is coming with me. I guess around £250 - £500.

I would like to play games somewhat on it, not bothered about crazy FPS, but I do play Everquest 2 and would like whatever I get graphics wise to be a decent upgraded over my 6800 GT.

Thanks folks,

Well, in all honestly, it is about time to upgrade, but your everything will work in the states. I'd at least keep the harddrive and the PSU.

Buy it when you get to the states, it will be at least 20 - 30% cheaper.

agreed. if you cant fit your current case, buy a cheapo small-enough one and take present pc with you in that case. if your current pc psu also accepts (or has a 240/120v switch) 120v, your fine (check monitor also)

when you arrive you will have: a lot of $ for your £ and will be buying gear for the same or less $ as you would pay in £. double saving!
eg, £100 cpu here = $190 in your pocket when you get to the states, where same cpu costs $125 = savings!

Thanks for all the replies folks, looks like i'm going to have to buy a new PC, oh well. I may take the PSU, I havent decided yet.

As for my monitor, I dont know if it works in the USA, it is a Samsung 913N TFT. Here's the link to the monitor - http://www.samsung.com/in/products/monitors/tftlcdmonitors/913n.asp

I presume I will have to get a new power cable for it, but will it work in the USA?

I took a quick look around and I am thinking of a system built around a Intel E6750 and maybe a GForcr 8800 GT, with around 4GB of ram. Is that decent? Like I said I have around £300-500 to play with, maybe a bit more, i'd like something that will last honestly. I dont mind taking a lower spec graphics card as long as I know I can pop in something newer later without having to rip out the mobo etc.

Thanks
