Help My 500gig maxtor is in the toilet

Not exactly but my dad has knocked a component off the interface board. It now will not pass any maxtor tools or boot up windows. We have tried replacing the component with no joy.

I have also bought another 500gig maxtor and tried swapping the boards with no luck

. I honestly thought this would work. I really need the information off the hard drive as it contains photos. I am now considering any specialists that can get the data off. Any companies you can recommend to do this?

A specialist company is gonna set you back at least 300 quid mate. That data better be important. Also, there is no guarantee you will get it all your data back - if any.

This may just be a case of biting the bullet and remembering to backup backup backup and backup some more!

try emailing the HD manf, but iv got a feeling it's long gone - HD's have very tempremental airfilters, not sure water would be loved.

I don't think it literally went into his toilet - i mean what the hell would it be doing there lol.

Do a search for "data recovery" in Google and you get loads of companies

In the past I have recovered over 85%data from peoples hard drives and they were the hard to please county councils and....
I do not charge £300.

if the drive tape itself is intact you will be able to get the data off of it. as has been said, it needs to be worth it.

Don't worry it's a maxtor just RMA it. They wont be able to tell seeing as they have about 100000000000000000000000000000 returns a day. I'm suprised it didn't kill itself before you did.

Ah, should read entire post shouldn't I

Unless you have a lot of money then I'd wave goodbye to the photo's
