Well my son and daughter are home from school, half term (Help!)

My son decides to grab my daughters camera, took a picture then decides to delete said picture, but instead of taking any notice he goes and deletes the entire load of stuff my daughters has.

So there you have it! my daughter in tears, day one of half term and the son doesnt seem to care one bit.

How can I sort this situation? is there anything I can do to get these things back? I know it can be done with hard drives but memory cards lol... Kids who would have them

It can be done. Most importantly DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO THE MEMORY CARD! until you have found the way to retrieve them. Any fiddling you do that causes writes the card will reduce the chance of getting all the photos back.

First things first, don't use the memory card or it will write over the old files. Try putting it in your pc with a card reader and running some file recovery software on it. Should work the same as a HDD IIRC in that it won't write over the old data until you use the space or format the drive.

I have took the camera off my daughter. I know from past experience of hard drives they need to be left alone until a solution is found.

This does my head in lol kids areeghghghgh!

I used a really good piece of software once when i lost all my phone pictures from the SD card. I just googled SD recovery and picked the first.

Sorry not much help but it was years ago and cant remember the name.

Take the card out of the camera, dont **** about with it until you have found a way to recover the files.

If it was an accident then not really the sons fault so other than a sorry not his fault in the slightest, never leave anything on a card that you think is important, hell even all the crap pictures I take on my phone get uploaded to G+ straight away, even if I never want to keep them they are backed up, and as with all other backups you never start backing up until you've lost everything once, at least your daughter will learn from this..

Easy, pick one to put up for adoption. Looks like an easy choice ;):p

Failing that, I'd try Recuva - a program by piriform.

I shall get on this asap! Should I be sticking the card into a proper reader rather then attaching the camera to a pc?

Doesn't make much difference in my experience. Going to echo nutcase_1uk and recommend Recuva - used it when I deleted a bunch of photos from my phone and decided I needed them back.

Ok I have tried numerous programs all with the same results!

Seem to have recovered some jpg's and two videos. both videos are damaged and will not play. Some of the pictures are corrupted but at least some were saved.

Thank you for the help guys :)
Shall be making sure my daughter is now backing her stuff up!

Don't forget to leave your son out in the cold tonight!
Gotta be punished dude, cruel to be kind an all that! :)

Glad you got some of it sorted.

Pandora recovery is the best bit of free software I have happened upon. It has certainly dug me and a few mates out of a few holes with sd, usb and removable drives.

I disagree, it was his fault. It may not have been his intention, but it was ultimatley his lack of attention that has caused the problem, and in the process has gutted his sister. The behavior to be corrected is the lack of care and attention when using someone elses property. So I wouldn't punish him for deleting the pics, but I would punish him for not being careful enough.

Without wanting to make this into a GD thread, I agree.
