Help my SSD cable does not fit :-(

Hi all i recently posted about a SSD i had laying about and got some help on here how ever te Adapter cable does not fit :mad:

and the cable i bought was this

the data cable would fit how ever on the power side the tab on the HDD is wayyy to big for the cable is there another cable that will fit ? also is there any other way ? seems a shame to lob a 128gb hdd in the bin :confused:

The link to the cable is broken but that SSD has a Micro SATA connector so you'll need an adapter to convert that to normal sized SATA connectors.

Doesnt the large connector just connect to hard drive and sata to motherboard
The sata cable is only 20cm long is that enough to reach your motherboard

Just lob it my way rather than the bin do a Google comes up with adapter for this[Micro Sata Adapter]

I'm pretty sure that the cable you have is mini SATA but the drive needs micro SATA.

On a mini SATA connector the data connector is larger than the power on, with micro SATA it's the other way round. Plus Micro SATA has a distinct gap in the power connector between the 5V & 3.3V lines.

This is a Standard Sata cable data fits but no power

hmmm looks like i got the wrong Cable DOH !!!!! would this one fit guys ? it has a distinct "key" in the power line liek the one on my hdd

Yeah, it's the wrong adapter. The raised plastic bit in the middle of the pins of the power connector is what tells you it's Micro SATA.

EDIT: The above refers to the post with the pictures.

The adapter in the auction link may or may not work, it depends on the drive. It will fit but since it's powered from a molex it will only supply 5V, the drive you have may be expecting a 3.3v connection which in that adapter isn't connected to anything

oh to add even more complicated matter that one on ebay says its 5v and not 3.3 but my HDD has 3.3v written on it so how does that work ?

yeah, it's a "micro SATA to SATA adaptor" you need, can't directly link because of forum rules but they look like this and cost about a fiver:

i have looked on the Bay but none in the UK

i think i have found one on E Buy3r i did not realise about links (sorry mods) could some one check E buy3r for code 184670 and check if its the right cable it says 3.3 and 5v so that should work right ?

You can get adapters which connect to a SATA power connector rather than a molex. The trick is to have a PSU with 3.3V SATA connectors which you actually seem to have - the first of the three pics above shows your SATA power has connector has 3 live lines (red, yellow & orange).

OK i guess that is better than using a Molex connector, thanks for all your help guys

i did not know there where so many options....... i will have a look on the net for a adapter, if OC sold them i would be more than happy to get from them but it seems they dont
